Gives them an excuse to send down Comeau

And how exactly is this relevant? Kolanos is in the AHL and we have 3 spots for contracts.

hopefully they go by current standings, considering the lack of games the flames have played

Although Boychuck is intriguing, I fail to see the need for yet another waiver wire player to be added to the system. 99% of the time these guys are on waivers for a reason and not simply because they need a change of scenery - see Blake Comeau.
The Flames need to sign a few high profile prospects shortly - contract numbers aside, there is still an organizational budget they need to consider.

But for every Blair Jones and Comeau you might luck out and get a Huselius.
Actually i'm still puzzled. Florida put him on waivers yet we had to trade Montador for him. Was it because we had too many contracts?

^Ouch you put Blair Jones in the same breath as Comeau.
Blair Jones isn't all-world but in terms of waiver pick-ups he's turned out decent.

Taking a shot on a waiver wire pick up isnt going to hurt future contracts. Internal budget? For the Flames? Is, and hasn't that been the max cap for the last few years?

Jones wasn't a waiver claim. He was traded for Mikkelson.

I'd pay the airfare for Comeau if he just left the Flames.
I'd also prefer Horak back with Calgary rather than Boychuk.

I was just about to ask people where they would place Boychuk in relation to Horak.
If Horak is better, then what is the point?

No. Back then they had recallable waivers ( believe it was once per team per season) where you could place a player on waivers...if he was claimed you could pull him back.

Boychuk certainly would not hurt the Flames. For a team with limited prospects under the age of 25 that appear ready to make the jump to the NHL, adding a guy who is on the verge of doing that makes sense to me.

Glad they got rid of that rule. Whats the point of that? to see if teams have interest in your player?

I think it was to make the gamble a little less if you wanted to get a player through waivers but it was iffy that someone might pick them up. Kind of like a waivers "mulligan" to be used once per year.
