I got my P.Eng right when they changed the passport signing rules. I have done NOTHING with my stamp aside from letting my kids stamp miscellaneous bits of paper in our home office.

They missed Dolph Lundgren who has a masters in chemical engineering and earned a fullbright scholarship to M.I.T. before he got into the movie business.

I don't get the whole ring thing. What a stupid thing to wear a ring for. I wear rings for important things...marriage, family traditions. Not my freakin job.

You are right, you don't get it.

I'm a Professional Engineer. I get it. I don't need a ring to remind me of my obligations and ethics.

I was thinking the same thing. When was the last time an engineer changed his or her mind by looking at a chunk of iron on their finger?

So you do get it...
I hope you don't consider being a Professional Engineer as a"freaking job".
That's the part of your statement that resonated with me, not so much the "the whole ring thing"

Then you should enjoy being an assistant to another engineer.

I am a P.Eng because I can and it looks good in your signature box. I haven't done any work as an engineer or assisting an engineer since becoming an engineer. I do however help organize the Science Olympics every year.

So, you've got an engineering degree, have done no engineering work and have your P.Eng because it looks good behind your name? Isn't that a bit like starring in porno films but refusing to have sex on camera?

I know quite a few people in the oil industry in management positions who don't practice engineering but still maintain their status, I am pretty sure they don't stamp any drawings. Software is another example, how many software engineers regularly stamp drawings?
In my industry, almost everyone is an engineer but none of us practice or at least very few do.

The professional status from Apega carries alot of merit when applying for various business related jobs.

In Oil and Gas the majority of those with a P.Eng designation did practice at one time but have moved upward on the ladder.
What industry are you in?
