I think it's pretty obvious what was going on here oilers_fan. If there was a call he wouldn't have been trying to jump on the red, all three of the police officer vehicles (the two cruisers and the one ghost car) would have turned on their lights and gone right through it.
Listen, I get sick of the over the top Cop hate here but you you being blinded and having the exact opposite extreme is just as frustrating.

I wasn't even referring to the video, I was talking about Rube's situation. As for the video, I said I just don't think it's a story or a big deal.

Ok, what punishment should be given to the officers here? Demotion? Desk duty? No promotion for five years?

I think being outed at roll call is sufficient.

I don't know, a warning, something to what they would have given a normal driver?

Yeah, I agree. If they get a punishment, it'll probably be with pay too. So what's better, 3 cops getting paid to sit on their ass or 3 cops getting paid to do what they should be doing. What they did really doesn't bother me as much as other stuff that I've seen cops do (like turning on their lights just to get through an intersection and turning them off immediately after getting through said intersection)

This irritates me on the same level it irritates me when I see cops using their cell phones/texting while driving, and then they ticket someone else for it.

They're exempt from the distracted driving law. They can also talk on their radios.

Which is stupid. It's just as much distracted driving for them to text their wives/husbands/common-law as it is for anyone else. And let's not start with the hooey that it's probably work related. It's just as easy for it not to be work related. If it's so important for them to be texting for work, then they can bloody well pull off into a parking lot like everyone else.

Why does that bother you? It's as if you think they're doing it to just get through the intersection, as opposed to being in a hurry to get to a call but not wanting to alert people (IE bad guys). It seems a lot of the things people get pissed off about are very easily explained.

Sure, they might be, but if you've ever spoken to a cop on a personal basis you'd know that a lot of it is work related. They don't like to tie up the radios with non-emergent calls through dispatch or their seargents. On top of that, they do take some pretty extensive driving courses and tend to be a lot better drivers than the rest of the public. When distracted driving becomes the cause of multiple police accidents, then there'd be a legitimate issue but that's not the case right now. It's not as if they're texting while they're driving lights and sirens.

It's not stupid at all. Cops using the various comm devices while driving is a necessity of their job. Pulling partly into an intersection on a red light then stunting to the local coffee shop is not. I'm sure you can see the difference.
And as mentioned, Cops are better drivers than most everyone else on the road because they have the training.

Uh, I'm not disagreeing with you that cops stunting is a bonehead move on the part of the cops. I think it's asshattery, given how visible they are.
I'm not talking about their radios. I'm talking about them texting on their cell phones. My kid and I watched one do it one day and when she held up her cell and taped him doing so, and he noticed, he got very embarrassed looking and threw the phone down. If it was something he was doing for the nature of his job, he'd have paid us no heed. My only point is that, like stunting through an intersection, it's just as easy that they are doing exactly that, as they are doing their job. I'm not naive enough to think cops do no wrong.

Be honest, what are the odds that's the case. The call got cancelled, and there just happened to be a Tim's right there, so might as well stop in? That'd be a pretty amazing coincidence.

Did any notice the cop in the left lane doing a brake stand? If I did that that would be a stunting or a careless driving ticket.

I don't have any problem with how those cops were driving. I've done a worse and never felt I was putting anyone in danger. If that's all we can complain about the CPS, we're lucky.

I sort of have to agree with this. If the biggest problem we have with our local police force is a tiny bit of stunting (and this is tiny), and a few guys who blow through intersections just because they can - we are doing very well as a city.
I don't think they should do this, but I am more worried if we had corruption issues then stunting. As a citizen, I won't loose sleep over this.
However, CPS is doing the right thing, protect their public image - investigation of what happen on even tiny issues. CPS should hold themselves to a very high level of professionalism, and I think they do for the most part.

I saw a cop hit the rollers and drive through a red light at 16th Ave and 10th St just so he could get to the Tim Hortons 20 seconds faster.
The coach of a cop's kid's team got a speeding ticket on the way to a game. He mentioned it to the cop dad, and the ticket was torn up.
These guys are allowed to play by a whole different set of rules, and not the ones they impose upon the rest of us.
