You failed to stop when required to do so. Do the right thing and take responsibility for your actions. I'm probably in the minority, but I always find it to be a silly when people look for technicalities to get out of their consequences. I hate tickets as much as the next guy, but common, you're the one who didn't obey the rules and got caught. Learn from your mistake and don't do it again. It's pretty simple.

I did stop... Like I said in the op that I am prepared to fight it, but if I can do it without trial then that would be easier

Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing that you'll need to show up at a trial for I think- prosecutors have their job to do...

Fair enough, I was hoping to just use the one day. Oh well one more day won't hurt.

And if you break a traffic law in the future (but get lucky enough to not be caught) the same thing applies, drive to the nearest police station and turn yourself in.

Have you ever fought a traffic ticket? I have, and there is a prosecutor.

I also would bet that prosecutor has objectives set for him in regards to pleas and guilty verdicts.

My brother gets quite a few tickets, and he's a lawyer, so I told him one day he should have his whole firm show up to fight one, every one of them in suits, with briefcases and binders full of papers. How sweet would that be for anyone there, "Your Honour, I would like to take the time to introduce my legal team, who will be fighting this speeding ticket along with me. I believe I am innocent, and with the help of these 7 men, I aim to prove it to you."
