Why is it always so big? Compare it to anything in the 50s, 60s or early 70s. Strongly dislike anything post..

Yeah I agree it should be toned down in the wing/louvre/do-dad department.

At least they upgraded the interior, which was always one of it's biggest weaknesses. I'm sure it will drive awesome as well....Corvettes usually do.

I agree. The louvers on the hood in particular look silly (regardless of function). The much maligned Saleen S7 still remains the poster child for such hideous styling elements. The rear end looks far too busy and not a fan of the Camaro taillights nor the quad tips piled together.
I was hoping they would have hit a home run with the C7's styling, underpinnings and drivetrain are all win and the interior looks like a giant leap forward but nothing groundbreaking. I think all C5+ Corvette's look too big although dimensionally they are with on par with the LP-560 I believe.

They are all functional "grills". Beneath are heat exchangers for engine components.

Hmm, I can't decide if I like it or not. The Corvette was always my dream car. My favorite version was the 70s Ray but I also really liked the C4 and C5.
On second thought, I can see this version growing on me. It definitely kicks ass on the C6

When I hear "carbon fibre" and a GM product mentioned in the same sentence, I get a bit uneasy because they've never been able to get it right. It always ends up looking like something off an eBay auction or out of the Canadian Tire automotive section.
BMW has a carbon fibre-patterned leather that they use for some of their trim that works incredibly well, or using a matte-finish CF look instead would work wonders for the car. Oh, and stop putting it in run-of-the-mill passenger cars.

The Camaro taillights are hideous.
Other than that, I do like it - as others have stated, it's an evolution.

Pop up headlights definitely make any car cooler. Doubt we will ever see them again though considering ever-tougher pedestrian safety crash standards.

If stupid people wouldn't run out infront of cars we wouldn't have that issue

These days in the car-world, it's all about stupid people.
Self-parking cars, back-up cameras, lane-departure warnings, blind-spot detectors, airbags from 20 different directions, pedestrian safety... all designed to keep stupid people alive by taking them out of the equation instead of teaching them to pay attention. Unfortunately it also turns new cars into bloated, and often ugly, pigs.

I thought it was a maintenance issue that killed pop up headlights. Never heard this safety issue before. What happened exactly?

I had 3 vettes over the years and in the end they were still GM junk.
My next and probably last sports car. You get what you pay for folks!

No longer needed. Popup headlights were used because governments mandated that all headlights be round or square.
Aerodynamics trumps the design.

This allowed the first U.S.-market car since 1939 with replaceable bulb headlamps – the 1984 Lincoln Mark VII. These composite headlamps were sometimes referred to as "Euro" headlamps, since aerodynamic headlamps were common in Europe. Though conceptually similar to European headlamps with non-standardised shape and replaceable-bulb construction, these headlamps conform to the SAE headlamp standards of US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, and not the internationalised European safety standards used outside North America. Nevertheless, this change to US regulations largely united headlamp styling within and outside the North American market.

As well as, cost, design simplicity, weight-reduction and pedestrian crash standards killed the pop-up.

I can't decide if it looks more like a Corvette that ate a Viper, or a Viper that ate a Corvette.
I like the way it looks, and bet it's fun to drive, but it's not a particularly classic look, that's for sure. Which I guess is a bit of a shame, because the Stingray's probably got 2 of my top 10 favourite designs of all time. But then, I'm not a car guy, so what do I know...

So... it's an ugly F12, essentially. Good job, GM.

That look was iconic for a Corvette and the lights they have used since then haven't worked for me, they have been too big and not sleek enough and the car has looked bugged eyed for the past generations.
|
Yes. I also don't like the hood. It's supposed to be smooth. The lines of the Corvette are supposed to be sleek. What is going on all over the hood?
Back to the basics please.

I prefer the new Viper (not exactly the same price range, but they've traditionally competed).
