I started getting sick on the Friday before NYE. I had pounding headache and a lot of aches and pains combined with chills and cold sweats (i.e. regular flu) for three days.
Then felt a lot better on NYE and outside of the hangover, felt great on New Years Day but then on the Wednesday I woke up with a sore throat and a terrible cough that got worse and worse until I woke up on Friday and the throat was so painful that I decided I wouldn't go into work and go to Urgent Care instead. That day I slept in until about 1pm with the full intention of actually going to Urgent Care but when I woke up, the sore throat was gone, so instead I just rested all day.
I still have a terrible cough that constantly wakes me up but the other symptoms are gone and since I never got a real fever and I don't have any wheezing I'm pretty sure I just have a bad case of Bronchitis left to get over.
Almost all of my close family friends got this flu as we all celebrated x-mas and nye together. My mom, dad and sister were both hit a lot harder then I was. At one point my dad was hooked up to an IV at Urgent Care.
Definitely a nasty case going around. Not overly intense but the fact that it makes you feel like you're over it is the worst part.
The worst part was coughing so badly that by day three it had felt like I'd done a million situps. So scared to cough because of how badly it hurt haha.
About two months ago I'm sitting in my office at work and a co-worker (who is clearly sick and should just be at home) stumbles into my office, proclaims how ####ty she's feeling, and then sits down opposite my desk and starts having a full-out conversation with me.
My comment about staying away from sick people and the three foot reverse I did in my chair wasn't enough hint for her, and lo and behold two days later I was sick as a dog.
Fast forward to yesterday....said individual does the same thing again! I swear if I get sick again I'm losing it. People man....
I can man through just about any kind of sick except a fever. I turn into a giant baby when I get that uncomfortable sweat and shivery business. I pretty much sleep on the couch until it passes. Everything else doesn't phase me much.
I have noticed for the past few weeks a kind of half-sick feeling, kind of like I am on the edge of getting something, a minor cough, minor congestion and that general tired feeling I get when I know I am coming down with something... Anyone else get that or am I just becoming a hypochondriac?
I don't get the Flu, but I do get Norovirus (Stomach Flu) now that we have a kid. Went 6 years stomach flu free, and then boom, 3 times in 2012.
If you have it make sure you Clorox wipe everything down, also clean out your toilet, and flush with lid down. When you flush it aerates, and is a major way for healthy people to catch it. You can shed virus for up to 2 weeks after. Oh and hand sanitizer does not work on the flu, so wash your hands as much as you can.
I've gone through a couple of bouts with this flu, as have my wife and son.
Making it even worse is the absence of NeoCitran on the shelves due to that plant in Nebraska (I think) closing down for a good portion of a year.

Did this year's flu shot target the correct strains?
If people had gotten the shot, could they have avoided the flu?

Four coworkers called in sick today. There wasn't even a new grand theft auto released. They seemed fine yesterday too. Pretty scary stuff. I'm sitting in my office in fear!
It went through my office pretty bad and my wife had it too. So far, I have managed to not get the flu or even a cold this year. I did get the flu shot back in November, but I am not sure at how good those are at predicting the strains that are around come January. Don't they pretty much go from last years versions? I am just wondering if I am lucky, or truly protected.
