The one chief is on a "hunger strike" to try to get an audience with the PM
By the looks of her she will be waiting a while before Harper thinks she is in serious health danger.

Might slow it down a bit. You're probably looking at 15 minutes from downtown.

Traveling very slowly down 16th Avenue is going to release about as much pollution into the air as idling the vehicles. Oops.

Can Lakeview residents block the traffic circle that creates a line of idling cars waiting to enter the circle, coming out of nightly Bingo at the Grey Eagle Casino that a native band has built?

I've laughed at reading most of these posts. I have no idea what effect bill C-45 will have on them and I'm willing to bet that very few of the protesters know either. I would like just one newsreporter to ask one of the protesors a simple "What in this bill do you disagree with".
If the Federal government is trying to screw them out of their Mineral Rights that is really bogus however, and they should be protesting that.

Funny that it's cold outside so they are protesting inside their warm vehicles.

Here you go people since all most of you can do is write racist comments.
Quote:
Bill C-45 removes all environmental protection from waterways and Lagimodier adds this is setting the stage for a westbound pipeline.
"They've gone from strict controls and environmental guidelines around developing near water that protected tens of thousands of bodies of water," he said.
"With unprotected waterways it makes it easier for industry to develop in and around water or put a pipeline under a river."
|
Quote:
The second cause for concern revolves around land rights and the process of selling reserve land.
"In order to previously release and sell land you had to go through a strict process which included having a majority of a majority of the band members vote to do so," he said.
"Now with the changes which the government is doing without consulting the Indians, all you need is to call a meeting and if the majority of the people vote to give up the land they'll give out the land. If chief and council are corrupted from resource companies, they'll just get their supporters out to vote."

I fail to see how its racist to want First Nations people to be on an equal level with the rest of us. I feel it would be a benefit to them and their culture if they had to earn the things that are currently given to them like the rest of Canada. Let the past be the past, in this society where everyone preaches so much about fair play and everyone is equal and politically correct, i am shocked we let one nationality have so many advantages over everyone else.

Do you really believe that the First Nations are treated equally? All you have to do is read the comments posted here to see the ingrained prejudice.
If you want to look at the reasons for this protest, I believe they are correct by trying to protect their rights and our rights.

Look! Conservative legislation that sacrifices environmental preservation in the name of big business. And look again, there are a bunch of Albertans blindly supporting it and insulting anyone who opposes it, with the inclusion of racially insensitive remarks! At least this isn't typical.

People tend to skew their definition of racism to suit their own views.
And you really shouldn't be shocked that First Nations have particular rights with regard to things like resources or self government since those things are clearly established principles of our country. The notions of "letting them" have so called "advantages" and "giving them things" that others don't get demonstrate a fair bit of ignorance of the historical and the legal basis for the current arrangement.
Finally, "let the past be the past" is a lot easier to say when you haven't suffered from generations of abuse stemming from it.

While I agree that reparations should have been paid and were deserved for the abuse, at what point is enough, enough?
I think an argument can be made that the "current arrangement" is causing their culture more harm than good.
