How is that relevant. Just because you can't stop lighting you believe why try to stop shootings?
Besides, are lighting strikes up significantly vs 10 years ago?

I hate to tell you this, Flames in 07, but cowperson is a mythical poster. He posts beautiful pictures of his dogs, and he will grace us with his opinion in certain threads, or in the case of this thread, leave a slightly controversial post.
But what you don't see from cowperson is a return to the thread to respond to inquiries into his posts, like that one. We are the little people, we do not deserve the mans time. If you do get a response, cherish it for the rest of your life, as it is rare, and the rest of CP will be filled with jealousy and admiration.

Well, he is viewing the thread right now. Maybe he'll make a rare exception and engage you in conversation. We will sit back and wait, and shower you with praise if you can get him to do so.

So I wasn't anywhere near the mall when it happened (though I've been there more than a few times). I thought it was a little strange that our local news station had to suddenly cut from their coverage to show an episode of Jeopardy.
FYI, you have a greater chance of dying in a car accident rather than a shooting like this. This incident, though close to home won't change my behavior.

Ha! Well I can't wait.
In related news that link above seems to tell me that in the last 12 years, more people have died from lighting strikes in the USA than from terrorism. Therefore it stands to reason that they must stop all activity thwarting terrorism including screening people at the US border.

Considering vehicle accidents are the #7 leading cause of deaths in the US, You have a greater chance of dying in a car accident than a lot of other things...

Wasn't there an "on-going mass shooting" thread or something such?

That sent some chills down my bloody spine reading that:
"He looked straight at me, and he aimed but he missed," said Pavlenko, who said she froze. She couldn't bend down. She couldn't move. "I thought he was going to come into the food court, but he kept going straight, toward J.C. Penney.

I have a feeling Obama is going to find a way to get these assault weapons off the streets before his term is done, it'll be a large fight.

This just happened in Toronto, with 10% the population of the USA I would think that would make the odds higher it would happen here again???
Nothing bad happens in Canada though, just ask the guy who had his head cut off in a Greyhound bus. Maybe we need knife control too. Start a knife registry.

Hmm, fun with percents! But if it happens in Canada, it is 1000% more likely to be you so I'm glad I'm here!

So doing some rough math, it looks like on average 35,000 people die in car wrecks every year vs an average of 10 in mass shootings. So to completely eliminate mass shootings would save the same number of lives as reducing .029% of traffic deaths. Which sounds more cost effective and practical? Heck, putting up a few traffic lights and a couple guard rails would save more lives than putting up checks tops and metal detectors in every public venue.

The Toronto shooting is the only rampage shooting that I can think of that took place in Canada. As for the Greyhound incident do really want to compare individual murder stats too?

Yeah while we're at it, why not say "screw it" to any other safety measures the government puts in place.
Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the world. We should take all the money we spend on cops, firefighters, metal detactors, seat belts...etc and put at all towards finding a cure for heart disease.

I was pointing out that mass shootings in the USA are actually fairly infrequent relative to the overall population and while tragic, we should be careful about sensationalizing them into some kind of trend that really isn't there.
In general, you really do have a greater chance of being hit by a lightning bolt than you do of dying in a mass shooting.
I'm an advocate of better gun control standards and the abolition of semi and automatic weapons by the way. I find the gun culture in the USA fairly appalling.
On the other hand, given the population size, you might still have the same frequency of mass shooting incidents as you do now even if fewer people owned guns.

Just busy in real life. This is fake life. Just a matter or priorities. Posting an opinion takes little time. Arguing that opinion takes all day.
