locked in a contract and there isn't just a fee to break it, they want the full contract paid.

CSnarpy works for ADT if I'm not mistaken. I dealt with him a while back. Send him a PM before you sign a contract with AlarmForce.

Personally, I think you're better off getting a dog than an alarm.

i'll have to check with the boss to be sure, but i beleive that with the alarm and the discount on the insurance we might be paying about $10 per month (i.e. $15 per month discount on insurance and $25 per month cost for alarm)

How long are these home alarm contracts? Like cell phones? 3 years?

Ours was a straight wash...$30 per month for the alarm and saving $30 a month through insurance.

Please, please try and avoid alarm force!!! (And I say this after all their systems that I've had to replace in the last 5 years)

Or here's another way I can put it. My buddy and I installed the ADT system for the CEO of alarmforce. If anything, that says it all.

Other than adt, The only other company I'd go with is Chubb. FYI, these two companies are the only ones who don't contract out monitoring. Avg response time for police is 7mins.

So the dog can destroy your things instead of a thief stealing them? I have two dogs and I do believe they keep the house safe but they do not allow us to have nice things to steal.

About the house alarms...I don't think I have ever heard a house alarm go off in all my years living in the burbs. Is it just an internal alarm? If so what good is that?

Bumping an old thread.

We've got Alarm Force and I had to report a false alarm last week. I got passed through 4 different reps who couldn't do a thing. I hung up and called again after I was speaking to a guy in tech support.

The fifth person I spoke to advised me that they did not receive communication from our home even though the siren was blaring in the background.

We are now protected with one of the CP recommended companies. Joe Matlin, his staff and his company can eat dog ####. Don't use Alarmforce

I had a horrible, horrible experience with ADT. I can not express enough how bad they are to deal with.

PM me proof that you used any company other than ADT and I'll paypal you $100. That's like your first 3 months free!

I had a strange experience with them. While shopping, a picture fell and tripped the motion sensor. We came home, turned it off and called in. "Talking to a live person" over the Korean War era squawk box isn't all it's cracked up to be, by the way.

The agent told me a security guard had been dispatched. I had though he/she already came and went, but an hour later I was standing on my driveway when an old K-Car rolls up and a 60+ English as a third language security guard rolls down his window and says "is this your house?" I casually say yes, he gives me the okey dokey and takes off.

I call Alarm Force, who tells me their security team has inspected and signed off as a false alarm - even though the "team" never left the "vehicle" when confirming with an unknown (perhaps murderer who was outside getting some air) person that they lived there.

Perhaps I'm over dramatizing the event, but I thought it was funny. With United Alarm now, I have no idea if the experience would be any different with them but at least their iPhone app keeps me amused.

When our dog tripped our motion sensor I was able to make it home before the rent a cop made it to our house by about 15 minutes. It took half an hour for us to receive the phone call and get home. Although I appreciated that somebody was able to 'verify', it does not bode well when a home owner is able to make it there faster than the first line of defense. Especially in our case where 45 minutes has elapsed before A call to dispatch Calgary Police Services would have happened.

I'm not against saving the time and efforts of CPS during a false alarm but if something bad were to have really happened, I'm not sure how well a pair of thugs could have been stopped by the large gal that was sent to our home to check things out.

Upon reflection, I don't know why I remained a client.

Thats too bad. There's always somebody who's had a bad experience with any company, I've never really experienced major complaints in the last 6 years. The Calgary office is pretty tight (7 installers, 5 sales reps) and I know our manager will always try to make the client happy.

Oops to previous post. "Live person" of course. United is $35/month. No complaints yet.
