Wild Fires.
The brightness around Edmonton is also explained by all of the plants within that area.

I always love seeing the divide between North and South Korea on maps like this. South Korea is one of the most brightly lit places around it ends up looking like an island since North Korea is nearly dark. Also interesting is how bright Puerto Rico is versus the rest of the Caribbean islands.
I'm assuming the bright cluster around southern Saskatchewan/Manitoba is more wildfires as I can't think of any cities in that spot.

Also, St.Albert, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Devon, Leduc, Fort Sask, Sherwood Park. Calgary only has Airdrie.

Those pictures are fake. The Earth is flat.
I hope the heathen that posted these blasphemous pictures burns in hell.

Calgary also has Cochrane, Strathmore, and Okotoks.

Probably light from all the blinking car alarms and police cars in Edmonton.

I was wondering what was up in North Dakota. That stood out the most to me.

I've got a good one, hopefully no one's used it already.
This isn't real because the earth is flat.

Wow, there are towns that have less then 100 people that are still visible. Insane resolution.

I think that Italy might be the brightest country on the map. I'm talking by land surface.

At least some of those are likely iron ore mines, workers campsites and the towns that serve them.

There's also a strange spot on the northern coast of Alaska that is brighter then most of Canada but nothing on the map.

I remember reading somewhere that in developing nations, after food and water are addressed, lighting at night is the single biggest contributor to development - it lets people continue to work, learn, socialize, and generally live after dark. It doesn't even necessarily mean everyone needs electricity - just having enough battery/solar charged light or public street lighting to be able to continue functioning is sufficient to have the big impact.
Pretty fascinating stuff to think about in the big picture.

That is Prudhoe Bay on the Alaskan North Slope. It is a major oilfield.
