Yup its a great safety feature to be able to use the arrester.

But carrier landings are a whole other beast and even more dangerous then air to air combat.

On my first visit to California when I was 13, my dad took me on a tour of the USS Enterprise at The US Naval Base at San Diego, home of the Pacific Fleet.

I love how they have a photo of the Enterprise C. Let's pick one of the most obscure Enterprise that half of the readership hasn't ever seen. What, what the Enterprise J for the Temporal Cold War photo too small or something? What about the XCV 330 from TMP?

Too bad that it can't be made into a museum. It would be awesome to check out.

It's pretty amazing to think that it's lasted 50 years and was probably built with technology developed even earlier.

In theory they could keep the Island from the Enterprise as the museum if they were so inclined.

well couldn't they just take out the engines (i.e. sensitive nuclear technology) and make it a museum? what else are they going to do with such a huge ship? seems kind of a sad ending if they're just going to tear it down for scrap

I think the problem is there are sections of the ship that will still be radioactive along with the fact that removing the eight reactors would pretty much involve cutting and destroying half the ship to remove them.

This along with a lot of other sensitive technology would probably do so much damage to the ship itself that restoring after would cost huge amounts of money. I'd love a museum too, but it doesn't seem doable.

The photo in the Forbes article is of the enterprise C; which was featured in a grand total of one episode (like the Enterprise J mentioned in the other post). The point is, you have six Enterprises spanning 3 tv shows and 11 movies that are some of the most identifiable ships in pop culture history, and they chose a picture of one that was on screen for three and a half minutes.
