I wish Calgary would declare itself in the Central time zone and not follow DST. I hate the fact that starting this week it's dark every day after work until almost March. Who cares about the morning, it'll still be dark when I get to work anyway.

Wikipedia says this is a myth, and that the dude who actually/originally proposed it wanted more daylight to collect insects

This is the first time one of my bogus Wikipedia edits has ever survived more than a week.

I love DST because I get to listen to people whine about something of almost no significance whatsoever.

That's what the internet is for.

People are complaining about this? Really? I would think a lot of people would appreciate the extra hour on a Saturday night.

I don't get it? Where does the extra hour come from?

People want it abolished. People can't believe we still do this because it's an outdated practice set up for farmers, even though it isn't an oudated practice set up for farmers, and even if it was for the farmers, there are still lots of farmers.

One dude from Costa Rica is counting his blessings that he doesn't still live here and have to deal with DST.

Myself, I hate the term "first world problems". It kind of annoys me when peopl throw it out there all the time on message boards. But god damn, if there ever was an appropriate thread to proclaim "first world problems", this is it. Good lord, people.

I don't think the fact that it's borrowed from half a year from now really takes away from Azure's point.

In Alberta DST was voted in, in a plebiscite, in 1971. BC passed it's bill in 1968.

At one time Calgary had the right to enact DST but Edmonton didn't.

I grew up before DST was enacted and I've never seen the purpose of it other than letting kids stay out later. The old rule was they had to be in when the street lights went on.

If we stayed on MST all year round the sun would rise at 4:20 am in the summer. That hour of daylight serves no purpose to most people; and might even make it harder for some to sleep in.

If we stayed on MDT all year the sun would rise at 9:40 am in the winter; which would mean it would be pitch dark out when kids are going to school. I don't think that is a good idea.

I can see why Costa Rica doesn't observe DST. In summer their sunrise is at 5:20 am and in the winter it is at 5:45 am. The changes in sunrise and sunset are so subtle in equitorial countries that many people there are not aware that sunrise and sunset times change throughout the year; as things like cloud cover can make more of a difference.

I would happily give up an hour of my Monday every week for an extra hour of Sunday every week.

How can that be made to make sense?

I got home at 2:30am only to realize it is 1:30am. That is awesome and why DST should stay.

Well, here I am on CP, commemorating the time-change at 2am as it happens.

...What's happened to my life?

Did it already roll back?

Is it the first 2:00 am

or the second?

At 2am, does it go to 1am, or do you repeat 2am twice?

I just woke up, and can't fall back to sleep, I am confuse.

It's 2:23am, and it has already rolled back. I thought I was on the brink of the roll-back 25 minutes ago but realized it had already changed. Fooled by the auto-correcting phone and laptop clock. Soul-destroying.
