How many luxury boxes? I think that's more important than 1500 nosebleeds.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. They intentionally modified the layout prior to building in away that reduced hockey capacity, I'm not sure they have the ability (or desire) to go back on that. Currently one end of lower level seating as to be pushed back to fit the rink in.

Yeah, I imagine they'll keep the name at least (personally I think the logo could be updated, but maybe that's just me). No real reason to change the team identity the only thing that's changing is the arena they play in.
Pity about the seat size but how much were they drawing in Nassau? I can't imagine the number exceeds the capacity at Barclay's and I imagine the experience will be better going to a brand new arena.

Damn, really wish they did this a few years ago so I could've taken advantage.
Long Island has a lot of hibernating Isles fans, but unfortunately they just didn't seem like they would ever build anything there. The LIRR Atlantic Station is right next door, so it's still a pretty easy way to get to the stadium from the island. Driving will be a lot more cumbersome, but still much better than going into the city. The core Isles fans will still make the trip, while I have a feeling this will give them a nice energy boost from the Brooklyn population.

Wow, I bet those suites alone would bring in more revenue than they did as a whole at Nassau.

Given the building only opened last month, I think you would have found the experience lacking.

They should rename the team the Dodgers. Just for ####s and giggles and lawsuits.
Should the move come to pass, I'll find it kind of sad seeing a franchise with such a storied past relocate.

I know nothing of New York.. how far apart are these stadiums?
Is this like moving from downtown Okotoks to Airdrie? Or Calgary to Saskatoon?

Google says it's about 29 miles between the two (42 minutes driving).

The original design for the building was done by Frank Gehry and would have been big enough for 18,000+ for hockey, but that design was too expensive, so they went with the smaller basketball layout they have now.
At this point, I doubt there's really much they can do to increase capacity, but it would be nice if they could at least make sure the rink is centered within the seating bowl.
Three years is enough time to build a new arena from the ground up (or completely rebuild the interior of MSG), so hopefully they have a plan to make it more hockey-friendly.
I know their lease in Nassau County is good through 2014-15, but it's hard to believe any penalty for leaving early would be more than the difference in increased revenue they'd get by moving earlier.

Nassau Coliseum to Barclay's center is roughly 50 km driving.

Not much different than the Montreal Canadiens relocating from the Forum to the Molson Centre.

I've been reading that the Isles may try to break their lease and move to Brooklyn sooner rather than later.
