For a lot of those bands, the guys still want to make money. Some were bad with finances, and the Casino circuit is the best way to make money.

Somoene can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Casinos pay those classic rock bands a "fee" for playing, instead of making money off ticket sales like they would if they booked their own show at random venues.

plus, a lot of those classic rock bands can make pretty decent appearance fees based on their name alone. So if you're in a classic rock band, and you can gaurantee $5-$10k a show by playing casinos all over north america, you go for it.

Hasn't Billy Idol been pretty active over the years on the business side of the music industry? I seem to recall hearing about him producing and writing for some pretty successful acts over the years, but it's kind of vague now.

Not too many artists sustain a long career in that industry. The fact that people still know who he is, is somewhat of a success on its own. (Coincidentally, not an hour after seeing this thread yesterday, I heard "White Wedding" while flipping throught the radio channels.

I'm pretty sure every live act works that way. A promoter (could be a huge company like the people who bring A-List acts to the 'dome or smaller operations that bring acts to nightclubs and bars or the venues themselves, like casinos) pays the act their fee and keeps most of the ticket sales (the act may get a cut).

I don't think the act ever books their own venues.

Yup in August...for 1 million bucks...of which he kept 20% and the rest went to his foundation.

Ive seen pictures and from those i spoke with that attended, to a man said it was one of the most unbelievable experiences of their lives and something never to be forgotten.

I saw him in April and was blown away at his level of showmanship and his ability to engage his audience...truly a pro's pro.

I have the same expectations when i go see Sir Paul in Edmonton at the end of November.

^ A pro's pro, who also once filled a lepoard-skin piano up with cocaine and took a bath in it for a week.

So true. I saw Billy back in 2002 (I believe) at Mac Hall with Stevens, amazing performance on both accounts.
