I wanted to be a psychiatrist because I enjoy helping others. I ended up being a decorator because of much the same general purpose.

Well maybe an E-Bookstore is a better goal in this day and age
I wanted to be a pilot and then an actor. I'd still love to get my flying license one day. The acting thing came from being semi-decent in drama in junior high (lead in the school play! Im kind of a big deal) but that quickly faded when I started high school. Drama didn't seem like the greatest option when I could get credit for dicking around in Photoshop!
I now have a degree in Supply Chain Management and ride a desk in probably the most pencil pushing job on the planet. Every day I want to punch myself in the face for the 12 year old me.

My dad worked in a car assembly plant, so I too wanted to work in a car assembly plant
I've since reached much higher, and my father seems to appreciate that.

I had a wide range, without ever really sticking to one... magician, cartoonist, substitute teacher (my fear of commitment started early I suppose), marine biologist, and then for a while, all I wanted to be was Stan Lee.

Another one for fighter pilot, but for some reason, I always imagined myself flying something vintage - like a Supermarine Spitfire or a P-51 Mustang.
Now, I'm a grad student turning government relations consultant. How incredibly boring.

Play hockey for the Montreal Canadiens, Sheriff (watched a lot of Gunsmoke) or scientist (had a lab coat when I was 7).

Hockey player until I realized that I was awful.
Astronaut until I realized that I just don't understand science, though I am interested in it.
I'm 35 now and I guess I want to be what I am, an insurance property and liability adjuster for an independant company. Pays well, work my own hours. It can get crazy busy, but you make a ton of money then. When it's slow, you golf or go home and play with the kids.

Formula 1 driver. Niki Lauda was my hero. I grew up near a international circuit and my plan was to get a job there, meet some people, get into ff 1600 and work my way up into F 1. Then we moved to Calgary, where the only form of racing was the dirt track roundy-round near Shepard or the local drag strip. quite the culture shock.

Another vote for fighter pilot. Top Gun was my favourite movie as a kid.
When I got glasses in grade 4, it pretty much crushed my dreams
