Sad story; CPS is likely gonna get roasted on this one. Problem for them is they can't just go around arresting every crazy ex-boyfriend who does creepy things, as 99/100 they don't end like this....

Hard to judge the police actions until more info comes out- based on the limited details we have, not sure they could have done more? There are a lot of crazy ex's out there- this is a one in a million incident.

Would a restraining order have helped? Hard to say when someone is completely obsessed.

He Re-tweeted Dane Cook. Definitely Mentally unstable.

In all seriousness... horrible. I usually side with the police on most things, but this one looks bad on them.

It's more against the law to murder someone than violate a restraining order, so I think it would have been irrelevant.

Yeah hard to say. She was killed in her car right? So probably away from the restraining order area anyways.

If she showed the police the Oct 21 tweet, what action can the police take in this new cyber-world?
Does there need to be new laws?

Global said she was killed at the house and he was driving the dead body all around the city. Including when he tried to break into her mom's house. She was already dead.

I think he stopped on country hills to hang himself. Idiot couldn't even do that right.

What im sugesting is the girl, her friends, and family would be more inclined to immediately call the police upon seeing him if a restraining order was in place. Anyways, this is all speculation- do we even know how long this had been going on? If it was in the months, then clearly yes, more could have been done.

It was his car.

CBC says he went to the mother and said, "I just murdered your daughter."

on the bright side, he failed at suicide. I hope he gets his rump rolled in jail. Takes a real man to behave like that.

I can totally see Transplants point of view, as it's tough for a lot of people to rationalize acts like this. Human nature causes us to try and fit these confusing acts into black and white boxes. Sometimes its a clear cut story like this (pitbull, dbag, abuser), sometimes it is the folks you would never suspect (Depressed Mother who nary says a peep until she drowns her kids).

However, I tend to side with the folks who claim a narcissist would never try and take his life, he would run. We saw this with that kid from Calgary who killed and dismembered his girlfriend in California. He only killed himself after he knew he couldn't run and was trapped. This guy didn't, and despite his stupidity at tying a rope, did try and kill himself. So I would wonder if the only reason he did this was because he had two pitbulls and was a dbag?

No, I think the common theme here is mental, not personality. It is the inability for these guys to control their temper when they feel they have lost everything that is the common thread. The girl probably broke up with him, and refused to get back together, he finally realized he couldn't control the situation and snapped into a million pieces.

That to me is a mental illness, one that can exist in these textbook examples, and in others where the person is a super likeable. There is no doubt this is a mental short coming of these people, but one that is not always easily identifiable. Most of these guys will only take it so far, and it is only a few special types who will take it to murder. Problem is, sometimes you can see it, and sometimes you can't.

So I will give the cops a break until the dust settles. They answer a million of these calls every year, and they can only do so much. If it turns out that they neglected, they deserve the smack, but wait and see.

My condolences to the mother, and (if they tried to raise him right) the parents of the murder. I feel your pain, know your confusion, and wish you the best in coming to closure over this. This one of life's tragedies that shouldn't happen, but has and will again. Unfortunately, That is the sad part that I have learned over the last 4+ years.

I read that tweet. Read it without context and its not at threat. If its included in a larger criminal harassment investigation, then maybe.... but who really knows.

In the good old days, this fellow would have gotten his ass kicked by someone for his harrassing behavior.

That's what our youth need nowadays. A good ass kicking to smarten them up.

Forget this being a case of mental illness. A good ass kicking is the only dose you need. Forget prozac.

If all that is being said true, how did she end up with him..Did he kidnap her? Will be interesting to read more details. If she was their on her own will - not sure what more the police could of done.

Yes, because prior to the last 10 years or so life was beautiful and nothing bad ever happened. If anyone got out of line, a light butt smack took care of the problems.

What I don't get, and I've refrained from posting because it's sort of an ####### thing to say, but where were this guy's "bros"

He's obviously an emotional disaster on Twitter, I wonder how much of that bled into life and if it wasn't taken seriously.

I dont know, I have some aquaintances that know of him and they dont have very nice things to say about him (even before what he did). So I doubt he had any 'bros' that gave a ***t about him.

Nearby, police had to rescue a man in his late 20s attempting to hang himself off a bridge.
This one is messed up, I work across the street of where the house is where the women lives. I drove behind the police cars when they were driving from Harvest Hills to Bedford (since I work there). I must have been 5 minutes late to see the guy drive off before he tried to kill himself (hell I might have seen him drive off).

I drove by the next day and saw the family outside the house all crying and gathering together. I had a feeling someone died, but didn't know the full extent until just now.

First 2 houses set ablaze across from my work, now there is a murder and attempted suicide.
