It isn't about being honest - it is about being sensible

Fair enough, but I don't think a few sentences is a diatribe in that it was neither forceful nor bitter. If it was, tone cannot be captured in print so we cannot assume diatribical intent.
Look, like I said, I'm not an Anders supporter, but I was on the Hill when the election was called, and from the murmurs around the Hill from ALL parties, Mr Anders is saying what many have known or thought to have happened.
It's just curious to me that when people like Mr Trudeau call others derogatory names in the House, he seems to get a free pass and the 'conspiracy' must be true. As soon as the name Rob Anders is used, rationality is thrown down the drain. The guy has been far from perfect, but this is just a non-story to me. It simply isn't news.

They just said something on Rutherford about Anders not having incumbent protection next election. Didn't catch it all, just that little bit.

I bet alot of the NDP think that Harper is a complete racist, but they don't say as much.

Especially to members of the media - talking between friends is one thing, but for an elected official to say that to a member of the media is just stupid.

Agreed, one must know how to manage the media. My comment about the reporter wasn't to suggest this was peculiar behaviour from a media correspondant. Just an observation about how the media acts in general.
You're absolutely right that saying that to them is stupid if you want to come out looking okay after.

I doubt Rob was awake long enough to notice anything in the House.

This.
I'm surprised he even bothered to apologize. What a ######bag.

Don't know. I was on a phone call and had the radio muted. When I got off the phone I turned the sound back on and he was saying that Anders won't have incumbent protection in 2015 and that the timing was interesting considering his recent comments. Then they went to commericial.

That is interesting. As far as I am aware, party rules are that anyone can be challenged for a nomination if someone with the proper credentials steps forward, even the PM. I know others will cite the party 'protecting' Mr Anders in 2009 from a challenge, but I also know that the nomination was being called off for reasons that had nothing to do with Mr Anders himself.

I heard, that it might be tied to the redistribution of Federal Ridings for the next election in the City and a potential split of the Calgary West riding. But all the information I found in the Calgary Herald noted that Calgary West was to remain relatively untouched.

Not quite, much of the NW area will be taken out as will the areas surrounding the University.

Outspoken Tory MP Rob Anders apologizes for suggesting Thomas Mulcair hastened Jack Layton’s death
Outspoken Conservative backbencher Rob Anders has apologized for suggesting NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair helped hasten the death of his predecessor, Jack Layton, by forcing him into an election despite his poor health.
Anders, who was already considered isolated from leadership in his party, received a quick rebuke Monday morning from the Prime Minister’s Office and may face further discipline after his interview with political website iPolitics.
|
Kudos to Harper for jumping on Anders right away and forcing him to apologize.

Again, I'm no Anders supporter, but people complain and wonder why we only ever get dishonest politicians who only regurgitate party talking points?
This reporter sounds spineless to set up a lunch and lead someone to believe they're being given an honest interview only to use it to make try and make them look bad. Shame.

Given his track record I'd wager he hasn't... but that's beside my point.
My point was that Harper publicly humiliated Anders by forcing him to apologize and Anders will most likely be subject to further disciplinary action by the party.
Anders is an outcast in the party (15 years as an MP and he's still a back bencher... and he's been removed from any meaningful committee position) who Harper really doesn't want to have anything to do with.
No tears will be shed in the CPC when Anders retires.

Ummm that was the most sarcastic post of the year. haha
Anders is not an outcast, he is a key part of the CPC party. Why do you think Harper bends over backwards to support him, while non i-sheep voters in Calgary West gets bent over.

Considering his tenure, he probably would have had a cabinet posting by now if it wasn't for that unfortunately strain of ######ation he seems to have.
