Anybody make it out to the meeting tonight? From what I heard (wasn't there) 3 options were presented and all three involved clear cutting along the logging companies West (Special K, Ridgeback, Tom Snow) and East (West Bragg Creek) containment lines. They did make the point that trail mitigation was important and mentioned 50m buffers around trails.

Meh, lumber mills need logs, pulp mills need pulp, people need paper and lumber and all the other wonderfull things that we make from wood.

You darn environmentalists are never considering the economy when you try to shut these things down. Bunch of irrational, clueless, lefty, pinko, commies if you ask me. The city has a ton of bike paths for you to use if you insist on riding a non-gas using vehicle.

Oh yeah and I suppose that you all have no problems writing those emails from inside your wooden houses. Hypocrites.

I like to think or believe that we are all environmentalists to some extent, in that we all want to keep the planet healthy for the benefit of ourselves and future generations. I believe responsible environmentalists, in general, do not try and put companies out of business, but employ tactics that encourage companies that mitigate harm to the environment, by changing the way they do business. Unfortunately, in my experience, the word, "environmentalist" is associated with those who go to extremes by trying to put companies out of business, and end up causing more harm than good.

As far as logging is concerned, I believe there are practices like clearcutting that should be abandoned in certain areas of the province. Sure we need lumber, but alternate means of harvesting like selective logging, is much less damaging to the forest and more sustainable in the long run. Through pressure from many environmentalists, the lumber companies are now doing much more selective logging than they use to, and I believe should go even further in this direction.

Whats the status now, and exactly what areas?

I really do think there are a lot of bike/atv riders are pretty clueless as to the impact that they have on wildlife/habitat. I have seen creeks literally torn apart, not to mention erosion issues. I would really like see mandatory training/licensing like for boating.
