THAT is a load of horse-####.

Either give the chaplains to everyone or get rid of all of them. I'm for the latter.

The thing is that in jail, religious prisoners are probably easier to handle so it helps keeping the prisons safe.

Well, duh. If the Conservatives really wanted to be fiscally responsible we wouldn't have that whole mandatory sentencing for potheads thing.

I would highly doubt that has any affect whatsoever.

Well whether a prisoner is truly changed or not, the prisoner wants to give that impression, probably because it makes points with the parole board, and so would act more responsibly.

All non-Christian chaplains have no been let go.

Finally a piece of good news from the Cons in a sea of weekly sludge.

Religious freedoms is important for Canada, but when you disobey the rules of orderly rule you give up some of those freedoms.

Right to movement, religion etc. Anyone can still practice whatever they want, but the gov isnt responsible for providing it to non law breakers so it shouldnt be responsible to provide it for those who do break the law.

If a preacher, mullah, high priestess want to donate their time to their weary flock then they can come in for free. I am sure there are meeting rooms that can be used.

Then take out the Christian chaplains. It should be all or nothing.

I thought the exact thing. It should be one rule for all.

This makes me very angry..

Can't wait for the religious discrimination lawsuits that are sure to be coming from this stupid decision.

As much as I agree with the removal of all chaplains it doesnt make much sense to only allow Christian chaplains. It should be all or nothing, leaving the Christian chaplains seems like pretty clear-cut discrimination.

In regards to the removal of the chaplains:

This whole thread is f'ckd. Convicted criminals still in incarceration should have no rights other than the right to be fed, clothed, and housed.

Everything else should be a privilege that has to be earned.

that's nice in theory but would lead to greater crime rates upon release and ultimately a more dangerous society and greater net cost to the taxpayer.

Why should it be all or nothing? Should they close the prison library because they cant offer the same number of books written in mandarin for the chinese prisoners? Maybe they close the prison yard because it doesnt have have a cricket pitch on it and the East Indian prisoners dont understand basketball? Majority rules - deal with it.

The question at hand is about accomodating a very small minority within the federal prison system. What part of my "examples" fail to speak to that?

Ok let me phrase it another way. Do you think the majority of prisons believe in god?

Those are pretty poor comparisons. English and basketball can be learned, while changing religions for the sake of convenience isn't as easy.

Why should it be all or nothing? Well. Why do we have any chaplains to begin with? Are they there to help inmates with rehabilitation and guidance, or is there another reason? If you believe they're there to help, then why limit and alienate a population of inmates because "majority rules"?
