Here's a movie I liked! It's actually an international film (produced in Hong Kong, China). The title is "Infernal Affairs". There are actually three movies in the series (1, 2, and 3). Worth watching if you don't mind reading subtitles while you watch! I guess you could get a dubbed version, but I think dubbed movies are cheesy. :P

Martin Scorsese is also planning to remake an American version of the movie with Brad Pitt rumoured as being the lead actor in the film.

Scorsese to remake Infernal Affairs

Infernal Affairs I Trailer

"...INFERNAL AFFAIRS is a tightly wound thriller which centers on two Hong Kong police officers - one a gang mole on the force and the other an undercover cop in the gang - who share the same objectives and who find their destinies intertwined in this high-octane police actioner."

Infernal Affairs I

Infernal Affairs II

Infernal Affairs III

Saw Mr and Mrs Smith. Although Angelina is well deserved of her uber babe status (including one scene as a dominatrix...hmmm never would have pictured that) this was a great cast that needed a decent script. It could have been a True Lies 2 - instead it was this bizarre cross of "War of the Roses" and a cheap John Woo movie. Without giving anything away, the last scene is so inexplicably fromage that Velveeta seems bland.

But Angelina...
I loved Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I was entertained and I enjoyed the humor and the action was good too. I absolutely loved the ending and didn't think it as cheese at all.

Speaking of Batman, anyone seen The Machinist?

I've been thinking of renting it, but have went home with something else the last couple of times.
Saw this a few nights ago.

The physical transformation Bale underwent is one of the most stunning sights I have ever seen. Decent movie, but his transformation should garner him an oscar - it was a sight to behold.
What Christian Bale did for that movie is nothing short of amazin............I watched the special features and they asked him how he lost all the weight........."I just didnt eat"...........What Bale did was dedication to his work to the extreme..............The movie itself wasnt bad..........throughout it, you keep on wondering What the fata is goin on, but it all comes together in the end and I called the ending........(Pat on the Back for VANFLAMESFAN)

Hey movie geeks,

Anyone interested in the new Superman movie might want to check out Bluetights.net's series of video blogs by Bryan Singer, chronicaling the production of the film.

There are 17 so far, so just replace the number at the end of the web address to view each one.

Thanks for the links Mike, I am still dissapointed Singer left the X-Men series though.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp opens soon, I'm pretty excited to see this film, it looks amazing.
Quote:
how was Depp going to play Wonka? No matter what one thinks of the 1971 film, Wilder played the candy man with an avuncular weirdness and a real warmth. Depp, never one to imitate, had to take a different path. First, he and Burton chose to give Wonka a backstory, making him the son of a dentist, who—because he never got to eat sweets—became estranged from his father and obsessed with candy. Over the years, Wonka has become not just reclusive, but almost autistic in his inability to connect with others. "He's not a father figure—he's a mess," Burton says. "There are lots of people who are geniuses in one area, but have complete deficiencies in other areas of their lives."
This next bit of news is for Transplant.. the Pink Panther film has been delayed yet again.

Sony Pictures has once again changed the release date for The Pink Panther. The Shawn Levy-directed comedy remake, starring Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyoncé Knowles and Jean Reno, will now open on February 10, 2006.
Moving along, anyone ever seen Boys Don't Cry? I've been meaning ot see it for a while and it was on Bravo last night so myself and the lady watched it.

I enjoyed it but not as much as I had though. HIlary Swank did give a good performance but I thought Peter Sarsgaard (Garden State, Kinsey) did a marverlous job as well.

Can't say I'll miss Katie Holmes in the next Batman... sure she's cute, but her acting is not very hot, and Batman's women always seem to have linger problems, so an actress that can portray that is definitely needed.

As for Joker, my picks are Jack Nicholson (he's still got it... did you see that smile in Anger Management?? the man is the Joker), Mark Hamill (he's got the voice, if he can pull off the creepiness in person, he's the man), or Robin Williams (I can see him being downright creepy... think One Hour Photo)... I'm also of the mindset that the Joker should be visibly older than Batman.

Re. Boys Don't Cry - i agree MMF, its a very hard movie to enjoy per say. Its a great movie, but not an enjoyable one. Requiem for a Dream is another one that comes to mind - Movies that are great but that I would never want to see again.

Re. the new Joker - Mark Hamill might be able to do it. The performance has to be over the top so he can ham it up as much as he wants. I don't really want to see Jack again - too linked to the previous genre. And Robin Williams is too big a name. I like someone a little more obscure. Hmmm. More though required.

Robin Williams, the person, is pretty annoying, he is like Jim Carrey in he always feels he has to be "on" during every interview.. but as an actor both of them are top notch. With that said, I still can't see him playing the Joker.. he just seems to short and pudgy for the role.

Another movie to recommend... anyone seen Mean Creek?. It's a pretty incredible movie
Quote:
It all begins in a small Oregon town, when shy Sam (RORY CULKIN) confesses to his protective older brother Rocky that he is getting pummeled daily by the towering school bully, George. Together, they plan the perfect payback, inviting George on a birthday river trip tailor-made to end in the bully's humiliation. Rocky's pals Clyde and Marty and Sam's budding girlfriend Millie also join the journey, which starts almost immediately with misgivings. Seeing George in a new light, as a lonely kid desperate for friendship and attention, Sam wants to call the whole thing off. But the boat and the plot are already in motion, and no one can foresee the surprises and accidents that are to come.
A summery of the movie.

Well, every now and then I come across a cool bit of movie news that I'd like sharing with the board, but I stop because it isn't big enough to warrent its own thread. So, let's start a movie thread and keep it going with all sorts of movie talk.

Katie Holmes won't be back for the Batman Begins sequel. Looks like the films creators didn't like all the negative press her and midget boy toy Tom Cruise were creating.
http://www.paramountcomedy.com/inconceivab...cle/repa/id~112
Verdict: Good, I really enjoyed the film but she isn't that good of an actor and brought the film down from the fantastic acting of Bale, Freeman, Oldman, and Michael Caine.

More Sequel News, it looks like a follow up to the hit Sin City will be made. This is pretty cool news as it is probably the best movie of 2005 so far. There are alot of Sin City stories out there by Frank Miller so it should be just as fantastic. A story cut from the first movie featuring Johnny Depp will hopefully be put back in.
http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9723

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 are currently shooting at the same time. All the major players are back. I loved the first one and can't wait to see these two films.
http://actionadventure.about.com/od/.../aa062604b.htm

Elf 2 is set to be made. They are currently writing up a draft for it. I liked the first one, it was an adorable Christmas movie. I love the holiday season so another one should be great.

So here we go, any movie news you wish to discuss, but don't think it's big enough to warrent its own thread.. throw it in here!

I figure all of these news bits would only get one, maybe two replies by themselves.. but in a bigger thread people can avoid talking about movies if they wish. So give it a go, any news ya got? Gotta be more movie geeks then just me in here.
A week late, but wanted to chime in on a few of these.

Katie Holmes - I guess I could watch more ET, but what's this negative press?

Sin City 2 - thumbs down for me. I liked Sin City, because it was unique; different from anything that had been ever done (that I had seen anyways). The artistic touch, colour, ect was ingenius. But, to repeat it about would be like Oceans Twelve to me.

Pirate of the Caribbean - I think I missed the boat (bad pun) on this, but whats so great about it again?

PS: Love the idea about a movie thread - HF has one, and it has personal reviews for movies watched and such. Great source to pick and choose which movies you wanna drop $10 on, and what to go into a movie expecting (ie. Going into Sin City and not expecting much for the plot or acting, but the artistic touch)

Girls have their chick flicks. Mr and Mrs Smith was definatly a guy flick.

If you went there looking for a good plotline, that wasn't the place to go. But, if you go and turn your brain off, its one of the best movies you've ever seen in a movie theator.

Both would be great movies to see, but not one I'd pay the $10 for. (Wow am I ever sounding cheap here)

I'll definatly have to watch both, but I'll probably have to wait until it comes out at the $2 theator

The thing that makes these movies great is it gives you chance to go back to when you were in grade 6. Personally, a real stress reliver to just sit back and enjoy it like you did in elementary school

I dont know if there are any Das Boot fans around here but there is a new 6 hour version out now. The movie was originally going to be a TV mini-series for West German TV. I bought it and watched it and it was great. The movie still moved along at a pretty good pace. It added a bit more to the overall storyline. I must say I was surprised on how much it improved on the original and even the Directors Cut.

Election is a great show MMF, you'd love it.# Reese Witherspoon is fantastic in it, and it's good for a few genuine laughs.# One of those comedies that has just the right tone, and great acting.

Great movie! I highly recommend Election. I believe Reese was nominated for a Golden Globe with this role.
Thanks Ro, Mango, I'll keep trying to find it.

Hearing Reeth Witherspoon did a good job in the movie is nice to hear. She played June Carter Cash in the new Johnny Cash bio pic coming out in November, and I was worried about that casting choice.
I'll third that nomination. It is a good show.

Re: June Carter Cash... here are a few pics from that movie

http://www.joaquin-phoenix.net/pics/walktheline.html

She's a little too cutesy-poo for me normally but is almost unrecognizable in these pictures/this movie so that's good.

I liked the whole package that it gave viewers. Good action, good storyline and some good humour as well. Also it seemed to be liked by men and women both which is always a plus as movie going is always better if my wife and I both enjoy the movie.

Should be great, and it sounds like Depp's story will be in:

Originally, the film was going to include the story featured in the "Sin City" maxi-series "To Hell And Back", with Johnny Depp in the lead role as Wallace. This was scrapped before production began but will most likely be filmed for a sequel as Rodriguez plans to film all of Miller's stories at some point.

How are they going to make a sequel for Batman? At the end of Batman Begins they set it up for the first Michael Keaton movie with Jack Nicholson as the Joker... why would they make another? That is the only other good Batman movie.
Batman Begins wasn't a prequel, it is a whole new set of movies. The plotlines, stories, etc of the new Batman movie have nothing to do with the Tim Burton and Joel Shumacher Batman movies (thank god)
And that answers a lot of questions.

I was really puzzled when I watched this movie as to why they switched the story.

I was expecting The Joker again to be the one who killed Bruce Wayne's parents.

I was kinda p*ssed off that they didnt go that route.

I am a huge Batman fan, and wasnt really happy with the way this one went.

I still think the first one was the best and always will be.

I do agree that Mr. Depp would make a great Joker though. Good call.

That's the thing though Ed, it wouldn't be a sequel. The Sin City graphic novels are many many stories put together that happen in Sin City. Sin City 2 would just be more of those stories. I realize in the movie world it would be hard to understand that, but the 2nd movie would just be more stories from the streets of Sin City.
