given i have a greater chance of landing on the moon or summitting everest than playing a round at augusta, i guess i really did not think this was a big deal.
i was more surprised/dissapointed to learn that the club was segregated until 1990.

Augusta has quite publicly told critics to go f themselves for years, and the volume of criticism certainly hasn't reached any major level recently, so I find it hard to believe that they were finally done in by any sort of bullying or pushing. They likely saw this as a move that could positively impact their brand by capitalizing on a growing golf demographic.

No males are not allowed in girl guides. My wife is a leader of our local girl guides and they had someone try to sign their son and daughter up two years ago and they turned the boy down. They walked out and signed them both up for Scouts.
I also just checked the girl guides website and it is plastered everywhere what your girl will do etc. No mention of boys anywhere. Yet they complain that every year enrollment is down.

I'm sure there are some old dead members rolling around in there grave right now. I for one think it is too bad. My gutt feeling tells me that they allowed the two women in just to stay out of this so called bad press. I don't think they did it just because they felt like it. They were kind of forced into it. Many of these members are most likely wealthy and possibly make a lot of money off of the general public and they don't need crazy women or people protesting in front of there places of business. These men who are members here didn't get rich by being dumb.
I was quite dissapointed when I read this and heard about it. My view is not racist before anyone says it but if I own something that isn't a "public" service and is private, I should be able to invite who I want without getting bad press.

I believe growing pressure from sponsors was the driving force behind it all. I too think it's too bad that this occurred if this is the case.
Its absolutely ridiculous that private clubs are forced to change anything when it is their money and their real estate that they paid for and cannot decide who benefits from it.
If a bunch of women got together and opened their own golf club, would anybody even care if they stayed female only? Not a chance. Somehow though, because its men...its some sort of affront to fairness and equality. Just assinine.

I don't know how private Augusta is . It kind of blurs the lines when it is financed by public companies, some of which are run by women.
