Exactly. You have up to a year to file a claim and then another year to get the claim closed out (repairs, or cash paid out) with TD.
Back in 2009 (I think thats when that massive storm happened), I didn't file a claim until like 10 months after, and ended up getting a new roof and 2 cars fixed. I think people have a false sense of urgency with things like this.
That said I already called and made my claim right as the claims line opened this am. I'm not a patient person.

Was looking out the window when this suddenly started last night and felt terrible for the poor people parked outside. Painful. Like falling gold nuggets for body shops.

About 30 dents for me. Most pretty minor, but a few good ones. Gonna have to try the "park in the sun" trick.

Ouch!!My fiancees car was in the garage because I sheared off a strut bolt in the middle of a CV boot change and it's delayed me a couple days. Our friend that lives with us thus had his BMW out on the street, and he took some hits and apparently has a $1000 deductible.
My fiancees car has some rust (2003 BMW) so I would have been quite happy letting it sit out there and get smoked by the hail instead of his, but alas it was in pieces in the garage and probably 2 hours of work from moving.

I would file the claim first chance you get. I don't see any upside to waiting? You get pilled higher on some adjusters desk waiting to get pilled higher on some autobody shops desk who can't get you a rental vehicle etc as they are booked out etc.etc. Also it comes across better to the insurance company if you file the claim in as quick a manner as possible. Why leave any doubt?
As for rates : if you have 2 or more home hail claims in a 3-5 year period the company will likely try to have you renew somewhere else. Alternatively they can try to change the terms of your policy to their liking by increasing your deductible or capping certain coverages. For auto once again they will increase your deductible and it starts to reflect poorly on you even though these are considered not at fault losses if you have a string of them. As this and many other threads will show these storms can sometimes cause people to get greedy and take the opposite of preventative measures to try to cash in. That is why there is the http://www.ibc.ca/en/insurance_crime/

Wow that is so fake, anyone trying to pass that off as hail would be crazy.
I wouldn't rush unless you are worried about the look of your vehicle, even if you got a claim opened right away the shops are over booked. Most companies are just going to pay you the cash and tell you to find someone. That dent there is the worst as they are the worst to repair.
Insurance companies are too busy to be suspicious, they are just writing cheques right now.

Depends how much value your integrity is to you. I guess the insurance companies owe you some cold hard cash then.....maybe even an actuary somewhere!

Also waiting is good because if you take the cash you can't claim hail again on that vehicle until you prove it was repaired. We had a girl in our office rush a claim through take the cash and get hit worse 1 month later last year and she is SOL now.

Non hail damage is fairly obvious but appraisers are just rushing appraisals right now. We have adjusters at drive in centers writing cheques to close the claims as fast as possible.

Curious, how much money do they typically give you? I have no idea how much this stuff costs to fix.

when you take a cash settlement on hail damage to your car you sign whats called a 13H which excludes hail damage. You can normally get that taken off once you prove you have repaired the damages

so if the damage was to the same areas she was not SOL. should could use the money from the first claim. if the damage was to an area no damged in the first claim she could make a second claim for the additional damage.
no?
