Well the US is already a team of all-stars, sure Howard makes a difference, but they are already good enough.

But this should end any debate about beating the Dream Team. Maybe they could do it 1 or 2 out of 10, but then again if you gave Spain 10 tries I think they'd beat the US 1 or 2 times.

Wow. These announcers are incredibly huge homers.
Unlike anything I've ever heard.

Spain had about as good a game as they could with tons of help from the refs and the US played pretty poor and they still lost easily.
Not sure how they could win 1 or 2 when things are likely to go in their favor the way they did today.

Which sport?
The Basketball guys are being fine and not even close to as bad as any Australian coverage of their athletes or a typical baseball teams coverage.

Spain played a solid game today, too bad these homers don't even give them any props.

The reffing help was really only in the 2nd quarter. And in fact the worst call of the day was Marc Gasol's 4th foul call. The US is the better team, but as those teams were constructed today, Spain would be able to exploit the US down low enough for me to think they can do so in a few games where they also shoot well from outside, and can beat the US.

You must be listening to a different feed. The announcers in the Basketball game I'm listening to are very biased.
Baseball? Last time I checked, they get paid by the team. Not the same at all.
Anyway, its not like I'd expect you to agree with anything that anyone says. Its been all "LeBron this, Coach K that, what a send off, Durant this, Kobe that, US is the best basketball nation in the world, women and men".
They still haven't even mentioned Spain since the game ended. Like I said, huge homers.

It's unfortunate that basketball will never be as competitive as international hockey. Any of the 7 big teams can win in hockey, while the US is always going to win until they make it 23 and under. Which is why in terms of teams sports nothing really touches hockey at the Olympics. We get all the best players (unlike soccer), and there is more than one team who can win (unlike basketball, or baseball).

Even under-23 would be dominated by the US. They should just have countries bid for players and have a bunch of superteams go at it. Make it half Americans and half international. Otherwise the US should keep winning the gold for a long while to come. It's why outside the gold medal game the basketball tournament doesn't get much attention, despite having the biggest collection of stars in the Olympics

No doubt. Nothing beats a gold medal in Hockey for team sports.

CTV is using the NBC feed for some reason. I wouldn't expect the US feed to be unbiased.
Not sure why CTV doesn't use the generic International feed (like they use for other team sports like non Canadian soccer, handball, field hockey etc) or use their own broadcasting team for a high profile sport like that.

They are English lanuguage announcers so of course they will be a little more focused on the American team which is what most of their audience is interested in. Throw in the fact that the American team just won, was much more impressive throughout the tournament and has much more interesting story lines on the team and it isn't that shocking.
Plus you are ignoring the comments and compliments they did give to Spain.

Sure, I'd expect some bias from NBC. Would it kill them to even throw a crumb Spain's way?
CBC announcers were very complimentary of the Americans after the gold medal hockey game.

Double dose of bad news: Canada is unlikely to finish in the top 12, as the Ukraine has 20 medals to Canada's 18. And it's been heavily rumoured the Spice Girls are on tap tonight for the closing ceremonies.

I don't like the decision to have Sinclair carry the flag. The girl who won Canada's only gold should carry it.
The comments Sinclair made to the ref following that loss make her an unacceptable representative. It was poor sportsmanship to make those comments and that is the antithesis of the spirit of the games.

I'm not a big fan of the medal count rankings (it's not like a bronze is equivalent to a gold) - but that is neither here nor there. The COC was aiming for 12th right?

The COC was aiming top-12. But yeah I'd rather be Kazakhstan, 13 medals but 7 golds.

I can see what your saying, and don't necessarily disagree. It's probably mostly emotion rather than rational on that decision. But I note that you (and just like me) - can't even name the only Canadian gold medal winner off the cuff, unlike Sinclair.

I have no argument with you thinking the Gold Medal winner should carry the flag but Sinclair's comments after the game were fair and called for. If anything they should be more reason for her to carry the flag and are definitely a plus for her both at these games and going forward.
