Oh man I'm so happy about this! Taylor really came into his own last season. He showed signs of absolute brilliance at times too. The best part is he COULD still be considered somewhat of a prospect since he only just turned 26, which is the age most goalies are in their prime.

As for the glut of goalies, Ramo is the Flames' second best goaltender. Irving IMO is the third. If Irving doesn't cut it this season as a backup in the NHL, Ramo should (and likely will) be ready to spend a year behind Kipper.

It's a good problem to have if you're Feaster. I'm sure several GMs wouldn't mind taking on Karlsson as a potential backup/AHL starter.

Agreed. I just have a gut feeling Karlsson will refuse to play in Abby. On his conditioning stint everything I saw from him looked like he didn't want to play here. His physical expressions showed like he didn't care about being there at all.

I don't know who that 3rd NHL goalie will be, but it's sure as hell going to be interesting.

I'd guess Ortio should be here for training camp and if he shows enough could win an AHL spot. The Flames might even send him to the ECHL just so they have a 3rd goalie handy. If needed, he'd probably only get to sit on the bench in Calgary anyways.

I'm curious on this part. What made him look apathetic? He's a goalie who typically wears his heart on his sleeve, as evidenced by the fact that he's visibly frustrated after every goal.

Kind of hard to explain. A few of the season ticket holders thought so as well.

Basically he just looked kind of lethargic during the game. For example, after he's made a save and is on his knees he looked slow in his movements getting up. I suppose that could be the injury, but it may not be.

At other times during the game it seemed he would casually skate behind the net to retrieve the puck whereas Irving or Taylor in the same situation would hurry to get the puck.

His side-to-side movements across the crease were slow and sometimes delayed.

I don't know, maybe that's just his "style" and maybe it was the injury still bugging him, but I just didn't think he was putting in a full effort. His body language showed apathy and laziness to me.

Do mediocre goalies make that much money in Europe?

He will still get his money in Europe. The flames will pay most if not all his contract if they are the ones loaning him. They can also recall him from Europe if they pay all his contract. The only way the flames get out of paying him is if he will not report to the Heat and the flames will not loan him Europe.

It's also entirely possible that you go with 3 goalies. One way to make sure that Kipper only gets 60 games, is to tell the backups that you're going to play in 1/4 and if you want to play, win and you'll get the next one, don't and you get popcorn. That way there's an internal competition and you get to have kipper play less.

Problem is that the back-up's would have to share duty in practice. If Kipper went down in the middle of a game, the back-up for the night would have not faced enough shots in practice during the week.

That and the problem is the team actually has to show up for our backup goalie.

Last season, it seemed like the team didn't want to play hockey when Irving came in.
