That's the other thing. If it was a "white" shooter, it will be billed as a "hate crime"

It's all the same still, but I guess a small part are "hate crimes"

I prefer people saying shooting, but who knows what goes inside these guys heads.

Conversely if it was a Muslim shooter in a white church it'd be billed as terrorism and probably cause more of a stir than 100 hate crimes.

Yup. That's the sad thing. Without researching it, it's usually a "X crime"

Not just a crime

Sick, just sick.

If this is some sort of hatred against Sikhs then I don't get it.

I live in Abbotsford where nearly 20% of the population is Sikh and I actually enjoy the Sikhs more than I do the Mennonites (the majority of the religious makeup of Abbotsford). They're such nice, down-to-earth people compared to the stuck up, pretentious Mennonites.

Do not demonize the shooter, don't even mention his name. Talking about them and giving their names fame only puts fuel on the fire of the mentally unstable. God damnit, if this keeps happening there's going to be riots/gun control wars.

That really could be the best case scenario instead of a Sikh temple being attacked by Christians, muslims or any other radical group. That would just set off a trainwreck of events.
Even if there was a dispute with in the Gurudwara, like politics (which I feel have not room in place of worship), I can't not see a member of the Sikh community taking kids hostage and killing innocent bystanders to make a point. In those kinds of unfortunate situations, usually members from different parties fight among themselves.

But that is beside the point, it has been reported the shooter was white, and this was clearly a hate crime. These ignorant individuals continue to confuse us for Muslims and continue to target Sikhs for that reason. Not saying they should be targeting Muslims either.

Sounding like the officer who was shot managed to shoot back and kill the shooter. Likely saving a lot of lives while risking his. True Hero

Politics aside I only can hope for the best of the victims in this case. I'm not religious and the reason for that is that it causes too much trouble. I can't help but feel sad for those who lost their lives because of one idiot.

I've been watching CNN and they are calling it "domestic terrorism".

Some reports that the shooter (a white guy) had a 9-11 tattoo. Sounds like an ignorant redneck wanted to go on a rampage against brown guys with beards and turbans.

It does keep happening. Spree shootings are sadly common in the US.

*July 20: 12 dead, 58 injured in Aurora, CO
*May 30: 7 dead, 1 injured in Seattle
*April 7: 3 dead, 2 injured in Tulsa, OK
*April 2: 7 dead, 3 injured at a California school
*February 27: 3 dead, 3 injured at an Ohio school

And that's just this year.

pretty soon these won't even be news anymore. after the headline news of the next way that Obama will destroy America and which Kardashian is pregnant, you'll hear the CNN anchor say "And finally, this weeks mass shooting occurred in ____ with __ dead and __ injured. Now to Bob with the weather"

Fifty-seven mass shootings in 30 years.

But there's not a gun problem in the US. Nope.

What's sadder is these incidents seem to INCREASE gun sales rather than discourage because the NRA and accompanying politicians scare everyone into thinking that people will come after their guns cause of this.

And the cycle continues. So backwards.

Yep, I generally cringe when I read some of the anti-American posts on CP, but god damn, there sure are a lot of things wrong with that country.

God bless America. Why does this seem to happen with so much frequency in that country only? Disturbing these types of incidents are such a hot commodity lately.

While I own no guns, and never will, I don't think the gun problem is the cause of this event, but rather the crazy/ idiot problem.

I mean, a guy seems to have thought he was striking back for 9-11. You have to be some kind of stupid to be doing that at a Sikh Temple.

And he likely got the gun legally. Most mass shootings happen with legally obtained guns. If he's crazy or an idiot, he probably shouldn't be owning firearms. Hence the reason restrictions need to be tightened on gun sales/ownership. A guy like him doesn't need to be owning weapons.

I'll never be convinced that the prevalence of guns in this country doesn't increase the number of these kind of incidents.
