The earthworks for a twinned bridge were done when the bridge was originally built, and the new bridge is West of the existing road, linking to those earthworks.

I don't see how it's anything but a new bridge to cross the tracks which will then be followed by a second bridge over the river, making each a 3-lane, generous shoulder bridge as opposed to the 4-lane, narrow shoulder bridge that is there now.

In the section I'm talking about it's 80 right now.

There were people on the street with me, whether or not they were in the intersection when I was I can't recall. I'm praying there was.

You can really see the earthworks on the west side of the highway in that picture.

Last time I was there there were new pilings driven into the bank on either side of that span over Bearspaw Dam Road, west of Stony Trail. They are also doing some significant digging and building in and around Nose Hill Drive for the coming overpass.

It's Macleod, not MacLeod.
Interesting trivia (to me, anyway) - Macleod Trail goes to Fort Macleod, Edmonton Trail used to go to Edmonton until they built Deerfoot. Calgary Trail in Edmonton still goes to Calgary.

Edmonton Trail turns into 4th St NE which turns into "your car stuck in a bus-trap" if you keep going. Having lived in the area for the past five years, you can see one idiot stuck in there every other weekend.

Why are they called "bus traps" when they're meant to trap cars?

The contract for the Nose Hill Drive interchange includes twinning the bridge over the CP rail tracks, but not over the river yet (I imagine that will come with the leg between Glenmore and HWY 1)

With the twinning of bother bridges, there will be three lanes each way, plus generous shoulders, as has been said. At that point 110 km/h is certainly safe.

Also, as part of the Nose Hills Drive interchange, the existing bridge over the CPR tracks will get widened, a new pedestrian bridge will be built over the railway tracks, and several other underpasses for pedestrians/cyclists are being built under various roadways/ramps.

The CPR bridge is being twinned now because the entrance ramp from Nose Hill Drive extends that far, and not building that bridge now would force a temporary routing to be bult that would likely have to be substandard.

Airdrie also has an Edmonton Trail that is a piece of the old highway. As is the 2A.

And yeah, OP, you're hooped. Macleod doesn't increase to 60 until 25th avenue.

As far as Stoney goes, it really should be 110 already on the east side from Deerfoot to 16th Avenue. Something tells me they won't raise the speed until the entire road is complete though.

Everyone goes 120 already anyway.

True, but if they raise the limit to 110, then I can go 130!

What about Banff Trail vs. Old Banff Coach Road. Which one did I take to Banff in my Model T?

Neither, you rode the rails in a freight car!

My Grampa told stories of how, when he worked at the Banff Springs Hotel way back in the 1920's, they'd hop a freight train into Calgary on Saturday afternoon, then back on Sunday night. He also gave me tips on how to properly catch the train (always wait for the uphill climb!) and avoid the railroad cops.

My mother, needless to say, was unamused on hearing my brother and I excitedly discuss where we were going to go on the train, and what soup we would bring to share with the hobos.

Looks like Banff Trail is the one you want.

I think it's neat. I'd prefer it over every highway being named after the Queen.
