Of course they'd care... some money is better than none.

I think another thing the IOC didn't like was that CBC and CTV had submitted a joint bid rather than two competing bids, which is naturally going to lower the value of the bid.

Because in 2010, only CTV and TSN (who I'm sure are Bell Media) had the Olympics and this joint venture with CBC would be huge as we could have the Olympics on like 5 channels at once.

Edit: Yes, Bell Media owns CTV and TSN. So this sucks if a deal can't be worked out. We wouldn't be able to watch any of the hockey games as I'm sure the CRTC will block all American channels.
I dont see why the CTRC would block US channels. The IOC has no power over the CRTC. The reason to block channels is when both a Canadian and US broadcaster have the same content, they want the Canadian provider to have the viewership.

Yeah, the IOC had a lot more power in Canada before the Vancouver Olympics. They won't give us another Olympics any time soon anyway, so they're basically just turning down money if they keep this stance. Rogers won't outbid them, so I suspect the others will be smart enough to stick to their price.

Hopefully they will call IOC's bluff. It would suck not to have a domestic carrier but I rather have none then have them cave to the IOC.

Not really a fan of the Olympics, so not paying for them doesn't bother me much.
