My only suggestion to you is to plan alternate routes now. This mayhem will not be finished before the long weekend, and the worst thing you can do is drive all the way to where they have closed the highway, and THEN find an alternate route. That's what everyone does, and it really causes havok on the roads not meant for that much traffic.

I probably saved my brother about twelve hours of waiting this weekend by calling him on his way to Kelowna and telling to divert to Highway 93 and hit the Crowsnest highway back home. At that point, they had closed the Trans Canada at Revelstoke and everyone was going south into the Arrow Lakes, and the ferries couldn't handle them. At the worst, they closed Highway 23 because of traffic (never saw that before on Drive BC), and there was an 8 hour wait to get on the ferry at Shelter Bay.

(EDIT: Someone said they waited for 14 hours for the ferry, gross. Just going by what Drive BC said here.)
