Lately, I've noticed a lot of entitlement, but I think that's because I'm getting older and kids are staying the same.

No, entitlement is definitely something that is on the rise, though I have no way of quantifying that opinion.

Again, I blame post-modernism and, more specifically, humanistic psychology.

Apparently Southwest Airlines is giving her and 9 other people of her choice a free trip/car and accommodations to disneyworld.

That helps to restore my faith in humanity.

I disagree with both of you, for this simple reason. A good portion of the stuff you guys say to people on this board, ESPECIALLY you two, you wouldn't in a million years say to some peoples faces. Especially you MMF. Yesterday I made a very heartfelt comment on this board. You know what I have been dealing with the last few months, and you decided to make it the MMF show, with a very inappropriate post. Yeah it is the internet, grow thicker skin... I know. But if I was sitting across a table from you in a pub, and I was visibly choked up by something that brought back some sad emotions, would you be the same huge a-hole in that situation? And the same would go for me, I admit it. I messed up today, and immediately apologized. The disconnect now, is these kids, don't have that sense of remorse.

I believe, we are finally seeing a generation that has had that internet flak jacket protecting them for the majority of their lives from real consequences from cruel behaviour. And because their socialization is being done online, they do not realize, behaviour like that, is not acceptable in real life.

I thanked a lot of posts that argued yours, pylon, but have you ever considered that you think too highly of your own morals? You come across as a good genuine person, and 95% of the people are.

Its just that 5% of the bad apples make the news... or old people just whine about it. I could name stories for you of what happened to you still happening now, or immature brats being disrespectful to sports officials being 45 years old...

(FTR : I think you are a genuine good person pylon... hope this doesn't come across as something else. I just disagree with your opinion and tone on the subject, not your character.)

It all started when it was decided that EVERY kid needed confidence. Giving confidence to all kids just turned the dumb ones into cocky little dip ****'s. Sorry but in life not all people are equal, I know this sounds rude but the sooner people realize this the better off we all will be.

The difference between confident and cocky; Confidence is when everyone else thinks you're good, cocky is when you think you are good.

Ever read Lord of the Flies?

Society is society, people are people.

We all suck, this is not new.

I am not a perfect person, never claimed to be. To this day I do things I am not proud of. But to pass something off like this as "kids will be kids" is utter BS.

Please, don't start that.

That post wasn't about your grief, it was a joke about two kids who saved a lamb and then me saying they cooked and ate it. It wasn't a joke about the pain you're going through or what you've had to deal with. Maybe replying to you made it seem that way but I was making a joke about the series of pictures.

Sorry if you took it that was, truly, but no.

And yeah, if you were choked up about something and a group of us were sitting around a table I'd end up making a joke about something (not your pain) to lighten the mood, that's generally how I deal with pain, jokes.

We don't know what remorse they felt, I bet they're feeling tonnes of it now. And hopefully they are made to understand what they did because alas.. they are kids and can't full understand what they were doing. They knew they were being little twats but beyond that they are stupid kids.

I'm approaching 30 and I admit I sometimes have kids these days moments then I brush away the nostalgic bits and realize I had many twat moments too . The insane crap my now 60 year old father and his now 70 year old uncle did in their youth (fotze joke here) would blow what those kids did on the bus out of the water.

Though they are Newfie, so that's a special sub-section of ######ed kids.

My point was that is was a direct disrespect of an authority figure. A parent might have saw it and said "kids these days!"

Kids will be kids is a response to "Kids these days!" Not brushing aside what the bus morons did.

And I didn't think you did it in that context intentionally, I am not that stupid. However, it did take a moment of reflection i was having, as something in that series of pictures, was very close to home, and just made it another stupid drive-by buzz kill. You didn't know that, but that is the effect it had. I know, that's my problem, not yours, fair enough.

But this is what I am getting at... we have an entire generation, that are being socialized online, and they don't have the same grasp of the effect their actions have on people in real life. Real life and appropriate behaviour to them, is now the youtube comments section.

Anyway, you guys hash it out from here. I am going to make like a grumpy old man and go bombing over some cliffs and crash into some trees on my mountain bike before it gets dark.

I would respond to this post but someone informed me that I am sub-human while they were in rant mode.

But yes, kids these days.

Wow........

I blame the anti-spanking crowd for this. Kids face no real consequences for their actions.

My old man would unleash hell on me if I did something like that.

Perhaps .....some of these kids' fathers are absent? Hmmmm....

Killing senior programs? While this would cut down on health care costs, it does seem a little harsh.

It is cool that she is going to become rich over this. Disneyworld? little ####### headquarters? Thanks Southwest, thats where she needs to go. how about a Hedonism resort. Get her freak on with Darandon.
Whoa. Look at it (and my responses) again.

I abhor it today. But I abhor it 50 years ago.

I am just against the hand wringing of society that thinks this is new, or of an overclassed underage.

This has never happened before. Or with kids.

Or ever.

Please, our youth are out of control! Thank god we have cameras now to judge when we didn't have it before, but it still happened.

Here's the problem. I actually saw this happening as a kid. But you know what. I got up and said it wasn't cool.

(I faced problems for it, but it did not last very long)

So don't say it never happened and don't say no one cares.

And that's what I'm saying. Just do your job and teach your kid to do their job. Instead of internet hand wringing. Yes you are all so enlightened to witness evil and say shame.

Evil happens when good people fail to act.

Really, how long ago was it that spanking was "allowed"?

I was a kid in the 80's/early 90's. I was never spanked I was never hit. My Dad had a hard as hell life but didn't see the need to hit his children.

Spanking hasn't been the norm for several decades now.
