Just as an update. Replaced PSU, as predicted no improvement. Tried connecting the SSD, it would recognize and then I tried to load windows and then the install failed. Tried to connect the old HDD and that would not get recognized. Yet if I install the HDD in an external case and hook it up via USB to another computer it would work no problem.

So final conclusion is that the MB is effed and I don't want to spend anymore money this thing. I guess I feel guilty that I recommended the Gateway, because it was on sale, and my mother wanted a Dell because her previous Dell worked for her for 7 years, and the Gateway crashed about a month after it comes out of warranty.
