Hold on, you mean your husband doesn't do the shoveling? Womens lib. has gone that far now?

I live on the side with no sidewalk in our community. I do like not having to worry about that for snow removal though.

The width of sidewalks is all specifications, I highly doubt you're going to get it changed. Or you could wait until the city puts all the forms down, and then go out and change them all yourself. Might be a lot of work.

Sidewalks should at least be wide enough for two adults to comfortably walk beside eachother down the street. Busier pedestrian environments should allow a clear path for at least 2 couples to pass one another.
Thank you, that is the type of info I was seeking.

He works out of town about 70% of the year and 100% of that is in winter. Unless it snows the 3 or 4 days he is home at Christmas, he doesn't have much chance.

But really that wasn't the thrust of my comments, snow removal was merely the thing that got me to thinking about side walks in general.

Does it mean that you cannot dump your driveway snow onto the street but you can dump the sidewalk snow onto the street? Because sidewalk is not private property. Am I right?

The city sidewalk snow can all go onto the street, but your driveway, and other sidewalk snow must go onto your own property.

Some interesting info:

If you were to put that snow on your property, in such a manner that it caused damage to someone else's property due to melting, re-freezing, falling etc, you are totally liable. Same applies to all water that collects on your property.

You can also not flow water directly from your eaves into the street, gutter or other city drainage through something like weeping tile or other piping. Normally it isnt a problem if you do, but if damage results you are also liable. I don't remember the exact requirements, but when we were landscaping we would always stop 4-5 feet short of the street/gutter and have it run out there.

No sidewalks in my neck of the woods. We have gravel shoulders and they're wide enough to park the car on.
