These stupid stories always remind me of the joke of the guy in the flood.
Police come and tell him to evacuate, he says No God will provide
Water gets higher, military comes to evacuate, he says No God will provide
Water gets higher, he is on his roof a guy in a boat comes by to evacuate, he says No God will provide.
Water gets to to of chimney, helicopter comes to save him, he says No God will provide
Guy drowns. Gets to heaven and is pissed. Asks God WTF! Gods says, I sent you a cop, an army guy, a boat and a helicopter, sometimes you gotta help yourself!!
Not mocking this guy, its obviously a sad story. But for a guy to watch his dad die the same way and not maybe take another approach is further proof of natural selection.

Death of snake-handling U.S. pastor fails to rattle fellow believers
Quote:
Andrew Hamblin, who co-starred on "Snake Salvation," said he was with Coots when he died.
"I held him in my arms when he took his last breath," said Hamblin, who is pastor at the Tabernacle Church of God in the nearby community of LaFollette, Tenn.
He believes that Coots, 42, would have died Feb. 15 no matter what; If not by a snake, then a stroke or some sort of accident.
"God's appointed time of death trumps everything," Hamblin said.
Quote:
Hood knew Coots well, and attended his standing-room only funeral service last week. At a gathering at the church afterward, some mourners were handling snakes, he said.
"At the service, what everybody recognized and accepted is that he died obedient to God and that his salvation is assured," said Hood.
At church service on Saturday, a week after Coots died, both Cody Coots and his mother handled the rattler that killed his father, said Williamson, who attended the service. Calls to the Coots family have not been returned.
People can have faith in things greater than themselves, I'm fine with that. They can even rely on that faith to explain the bigger scary questions of human existence and meaning of the universe etc. if they want to, no problem with that either. But when faith blinds people to the logical conclusions of A + B = C and can't recognize that poison kills you no matter what your faith because biology is still biology, well then I'm at a loss for words. May as well say that the earth is still flat despite all the facts that say otherwise.
I'm not one for hating religion, but when it gets in the way of logical thought I become incredulous and a little furious at the situation.

I think snake handling in some pentocostal circles originates from scripture on the apostle Paul where he was bitten by a venomous snake on the island of Malta but survived...

From an historical perspective, there were probably ancient "snake handlers" who were inspired by the story in Acts 28:1–6 to write Mark 16:17–18, which is a VERY late interpolation.

The cryo-chambers are used as a therapy tool to cool the body. Patients are exposed to extremely cold, dry air for two to four minutes in the chambers, where temperatures can reach minus 240 degrees.
Ake (the manager of the business) was found inside a chamber at least 10 hours after she entered it.
Authorities say Ake may have been operating the machine without assistance and may have suffocated.

These are my sentiments as well.

This is actually a really really good analogy. I will defend the vast majority of peoples rights to belong to whatever church they want but so many people pray for a solution when it's already right there for the taking. Who knows, maybe it is divine intervention, but damn some people are just not smart.
Bring a rattlesnake to church.... wtf is that going to do besides kill someone? It's amazing how dumb religion can make some people while others can manage it just fine. Something about it makes certain people lose their grasp on reality. If there is a God he or she must be sitting there thinking wtf man... a snake in church? You're on your own on this one.
