Serious question. What is the difference between North Edmonton and South Edmonton? The premise for the show is showing the contrast between the two, but the article never gave a hint as to what that is. Is it similar to Calgary's West/East?

Edmonton North smells like a toilet.
Edmonton South smells like an armpit.

This is a trainwreck even before it starts. On the other hand, Canadian Big Brother will be great

There is more to Edmonton than just North and South now. There is pretty much a brutal part of town you never want to hang out in by the Coliseum. That is like the old North. The new North is a lot more north with all new developtments.
There is overall a huge difference from what i see. I lived in the Northside until I was 21. (Londonderry area).
I then lived in Old Glenora, Terwillegar, and now Windermere.
Big difference to me.
Edmonton is so much bigger now.
You even see it ethnicity wise. Northside to me had a good mixture of different ethnicity. A big melting pot.
In Old Glenora and Terwillegar area, I would say it is a lot more Caucasian and a lot of the south west and west is occupied by a lot of Jewish people.
Compared to the North side, I just see less of everything in terms of panhandlers, homeless people, drunk people in public, etc. Less of those social problems.

The only thing worse would be if Calgary aired a reality TV show based on a horrible nightclub full of d-bags.

Most of this post is of no help. In my 29 years, I've spent a total of 5 days in Edmonton. So I have no idea where the communities you speak of are, and I have no desire to learn. I'll take it that the north is bad, the south is still bad but not as bad as the north.

----------------------------------------------------------
"new" North
---------------------------------------------------------
Older(ish) edmonton
---------------------------------------------------------
city center
---------------------------------------------------------
south edmonton
------------------------------------------------------------
So that is how i would divide the city. Basically, west edmonton, most of the south, and the "new" north are all places you wouldn't mind living. Older(ish) edmonton has kind of like a "beltline" or maybe a bowness/forest lawn sort of feel to it. There are some places in south edmonton you don't really want to find yourself. Mostly though, the city of edmonton was not built very well. It projected growth that did not happen. Areas close to downtown were built, but people all migrated out to the periphery. The area north of downtown is the worst, just north and up towards the east of edmonton. This is the best explanation I can give.
