I know a couple of people from the group in the picture you posted. While I can't tell you what event they have this weekend, you could call Dark Age Creations ( http://www.darkagecreations.com/) on Macleod and they will probably have some information. Most local SCA folks would not be going to that event as there is a large local SCA event in Brooks this weekend.

I don't know if you guys will be able to see this or not, but here's a link to more info.

This Sunday is Canadian Forces day. So it'll be free admission to the museum and they're going to have a bunch of stuff happening. Definitely head down if you get the chance.
Edit: Some extra info about what will be happening.

This event runs all day and brings together various reenactment groups from western Canada. Gladiators, knights, and Viking warriors will team up with reenactors of the Northwest Rebellion and the Second World War to bring the community what promises to be an authentic depiction of the history of warfare. This is also a one-day-only opportunity to see a Leopard Tank, brought to us courtesy of the Canadian Forces armoured regiment Lord Strathcona's Horse.

Speaking to the majority of museums, the not on display artefacts are impressive. If I can remember correctly, a museum will generally only have 20% of their collection on display at one time. Good museums are the ones who manage to efficiently cycle portions of their artefacts in and out of the exhibits.
Most times, the gallery space just isn't large enough to exhibit all the artefacts. Some artefacts are also so fragile that to be put on display would destroy them. And some can only go on for short periods of time for the same reason.
If anyone ever gets the chance to tour the collections storage of any museum, I recommend you take the opportunity. What you see on display is absolutely nothing compared to what you can see in collections storage.

I'm not sure eye-glasses were common in the Dark Ages.
