But the hardest skill for a line man is pass blocking, you have to really understand your reads in order to be good at it, and make decisions based on pressure packages.
We played in a tourney in Vegas a couple years ago. They have downfield blocking down there, but has to be hands only between the shoulders. Can't blind side anyone. I actually like the rule quite a bit. Don't want to see someone take any huge hits downfield with no pads or being blind sided with a shoulder when you're looking the other way. It opened up a little bit of a running game and we were quite effective with little bubble screen passes getting the linemen to jump out and block the linebackers.

Every once in a while you really have to let a lineman go up field or they become bored.

A little rock and roll is good for the soul.

BUMP

So because I’ve had quite a bit of interest I figured it would be easier to reply in this thread than contact everyone via PM. As mentioned we’ve had a large amount of interest from various guys about joining our team is to so we as a team decided our best option would be to invite all those interested to come and play this week in our preseason tournament. We play at Noon on both Saturday and Sunday at the Acadia Felids (across the street from Lord Beaverbrook, map is here). We’ll be assessing players on their performance and then following up with them afterwards, obviously the more snaps you are in for the better assessment we can make so it would be in your interest to attend both games. You will be playing both O and D line as we have requirements at both positions.

Again if you’ve never played in the league or football before don’t let that deter you. The line isn’t particularly complicated and you’ll be playing both O and D line which, as long as you remember not to move before the ball in snapped than you’re fine. Normal running shoes are fine, but if you have cleats I’d recommends using them (no metal), bring one red and one white t-shirt and gym shorts to wear and you’ll be good to go. When you show up, try a be a bit early, and introduce yourself, I’ll be the tall balding guy wearing #15 on this jersey. We are also in the market for a cornerback so if you want to come try out for that position feel free.

Again, anyone who is interested in playing line, or corner is more than welcome to join this weekend. If you have any further questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

Edit: If you're a lurker reading this feel free to come out as well.

So much fun except for the stupid hilarity of the Captain screwing up bonking the back of his head off of the turf and then getting up and saying something to the extent of Urga bleah. and staggering off the field.

Captain did well in leading us to our first tournament win. We all really appreciated his efforts, and like he says, it's a ton of fun. We are going to be short some guys tomorrow so if you are reading this and want to come out you're more than welcome.

I don't know if leading is the right word unless it was my head leading my body into the ground.

Its actually really good fun football. next game I play though, I'm going deep, it might take me a few hours but I'll be the guy eating the hotdog calling for a pass.
