I think my favourite moment with old people and technology was a while back when I was about 13 and at the Northland public library.

I was in the library and they were having a computer class for elderly people and the instructor was telling the students how to use an email service. I think they were given assigned emails, but anywho, the instructor is taking them step by step on how to sign into their emails.

She says now put in your username, and then click the box below and put in your password. The class does as she says and the instructor asks if their are any questions. About 80% of the people put up their hands, and the instructor quickly says, Don't worry, your password is stars so other people cannot see it and that the keyboard is working properly.
There was a big collective OHHHHH, and every single hand went down. Still cracks me up when I think about it.

Another good one was when my dad tried to convince me that Google was the portal to every website and that you needed to enter an URL in the google search bar to get to websites. The kicker was that he actually used the address bar to get to google.

hahaha

The first computer I bought, a Dell 486, came with a ball mouse. After a while the mouse had problems tracking, so I took the ball out to take a look.

Inside on the rollers I noticed the "grippy strips" (my word for the 1/8" bands installed on the rollers to provide friction to the ball) were breaking down. I could actually see chunks of the factory strips were missing!

I went to great lengths to repair these strips by cutting electricians tape into 1/8" strips and replacing the factory strips on the rollers.

Worked great, even after I realized what a dumbass I was.
