Really? Where? When? I thought this was a thread about Junior Seau being dead? I am not saying it is not tragic, it is too tragic but as a father it pisses me off that somebody would do that to their children. He wasn't killed by natural causes or an accident, the guy took the easy way out and left behind a bunch of hurt and sorrow and for that I have a hard time making him out to be a hero like some are. Would you rather I wait two weeks to say he was selfish for doing that to his kids? Would that be more respectful? Or would you still jump down my throat because you think it is wrong to point out that this guy just destroyed his childrens lives because he had problems. We all have problems.

Edit: If it turns out post concussion has to do with it then I retract what I have said as it obviously was not in his control. That is yet to be determined though.

Although not so eloquently put, I have to agree here.

And I say this as someone who is going through the fallout of losing someone in a very similar manner, just recently as many of you know. This decision may give the depression sufferer immediate relief, but the pain left behind to family, is now likely amplified tenfold to anything they were suffering. No matter what the motivation was, loved ones will blame themselves for not seeing the signs, not doing something to stop them, and not having a chance to say goodbye and make peace in a manner you typically can with an elderly or terminally ill person. Every day at work right now, I have at least one moment where I am fighting back tears thinking of the guy walking past my office making a stupid face, or just calling my a giant, ######, dork uncle in front of my co workers.

I desperately miss my nephew who was my brother. But I am furiously pissed at him for the pain he has brought into the lives of the people that loved him, especially my folks that raised him and would have done anything, to help him given the chance.

I never understood the definition of suicide being a 'selfish' choice, until a few weeks ago.

I guess I could have put it in a better manner but it makes me so angry thinking of what his family, friends, and children must be feeling right now. Thanks for sharing Pylon, that is really sad what you have gone through and you have my greatest sympathy. I too lost someone close to suicide and I miss them dearly but I also fill with anger whenever I think about it.

Watching his career was really fun, especially his years with the Pats. Seemed like a really loveable and respected guy in the league. this is super sad. I believe he had issues so this isnt exactly surprising but still very sad. RIP T&P to the family

But the most moving memory of Seau may have been offered by a player who was never Seau’s teammate, didn’t claim to know him well and didn’t make it to the NFL until Seau had already retired: Saints backup center Eric Olsen.

“Wow this is a tough one,” Olsen wrote on his Twitter account when he heard about Seau’s death. “When I was a frosh in HS Junior Seau worked the Jay Fiedler Football camp and at the end of one of the days he challenged anyone to a 1-on-1. Being one of the ‘big’ kids, I was volunteered by my buddies and went up in front of the whole camp to face this monster of a man. Shaking in my cleats, he gave me a wink before a coach gave the cadence. He let me pancake him. And he sold it too. I can’t even tell you how good I felt at that moment; it changed me forever. The whole camp cheered for me, a chubby kid that didn’t know if he even liked football. From then on I was addicted. All thanks to this 10-time all-pro that felt like making some snot-nosed kid’s day. Doesn’t seem like much but it meant a lot to me. Sorry for the essay just had to share. RIP Junior I’ll never forget what you did for me.”

One of the guys I grew up watching, one of the players you remember watching as a young kid on this Sunday mornings, then going to play madden and pretend to be jr seau.

I remember when Seau emerged with the Chargers in 1992. After a 1-4 start the Chargers came back to finish 11-5 and win the Division IIRC. After that the Chargers were a pretty competitive team for a few years with Seau leading their defence.

Hopefully if this does anything it will make players more aware of their own concussions, and give them more courage to speak up if they don't feel right. I understand that athletes get caught up in the moment of competition, but tragedies like this may be enough to make someone think, maybe this could be my future if I get back in there and take another big hit. RIP.
