the whole nanny state argument is ridiculous here. no one is saying that you can't buy a super powerful bike and ride it, you just can't do it on public roads. driving/riding isn't a right, it's a privilege, and if you're going to use government roads then you need to abide by the rules they set

just thought i'd give this thread a little bump as the new law comes into effect this friday....

Quote:

New motorcycle safety regulations come into effect across BC Friday.
The new regulations make it mandatory for all motorcyclists and their passengers to wear helmets that display the proper industry safety certification label.
Helmets must comply with standards outlined by:
  • The US Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Snell Memorial Foundation 2005 or 2012
  • United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE)
Riders violating the new law will be subject to a $138 fine.
New seating laws have also been put in place to protect both riders and passengers.

Besides safety, for me it comes down to where my tax money goes. If it's going to pay for the hospitalization and unemployment insurance of somebody, and that person did nothing to minimize their potential injury, then I am not really okay with that.
Im sure people that wear full face helmets say the same thing about my half helmet. I'd say the same goes for drinking and smoking. Where is the taxpayers protection from them?

Some friends of mine on the island will not be happy about this. I'll be ribbing them about the huge helmet they have to wear now

Both of those are taxed. Very heavily taxed actually.
