So how much are they going to charge for weddings now? I can see the prices being stupid expensive.

Either way it looks just meh to me... nothing impressive IMO.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's smaller than the old one: it's open in the middle to the floors below for part of its length, so that the lower floors get the benefit of the skylight. I think it'll have a very different feel because of that, even if the gardens themselves are really well-done and lush.

Time to bust out some walls and expand sideways then!

i was in TD for lunch today and from what i could see that's finished it just looks like a fancier foodcourt area.

I went on my first 'date' to the Devonian Gardens. I was in grade 7, her name was Julie, I believe it was a Friday afternoon. Lots of awkward walking around the gardens in silence followed by walking around the dumpy mall and plus fifteens that were open, had a bite to eat at Taco Time in Banker's Hall, and finally, I discovered a cool-ass map store I could have spent all day in before catching the c-train home.

</coolstorybro>

Never been back to the Devonian Gardens.

I was pretty excited about this, as I really liked the 'old' Gardens. Now I'm cautiously curious. The photos have not impressed me, but I realize it's also not 'done'. I'll hold off on my judgement of it for now, but yeah...not impressed with what I've seen so far.

I have heard June 28th as an opening date. Not sure if that will end up being the official date though.

Haha, we did too. Liked to take the kids there when they were younger, it was a big day to ride the train down to the jungle.

I don't need to see it before passing judgement. I'll call it now: The new gardens are gonna suck compared to the old one. Book it.

The lack of turtles guarantees it.

The backlash from how terrible it is should be fun to listen to.

How did the city end up with the space for the Devonian gardens? Was it donated to (and thus owned by) the city, or traded for zoning relaxation, or do they lease it? It seems to me that makes a difference. If the city's lease was up, or they're getting the space for free, they'd have less say in what happened to it.

I loved the old gardens. For how long they've been closed, I really expected something amazing.

The video on the city's website says that the city leases the space from the mall owner, who requested they leave the skylight open to allow light into the mall below.

They also had that yellow tub thing that you spun around in. I puked from that more than once as a child. You'd think I'd learn.
