I think many house cleaners charge far too much, in comparison with what the average unskilled workers, and even some skilled workers, make.

What do you think they should make?

If I was to go work for a cleaning company, they pay me $15 an hour, provide me with a car, fuel, training, cleaning products, lots of work etc. They charge upwards of $55 an hour for the work I do.

If I was to do cleaning for people privately, I pay for my car, my fuel, cleaning supplies, and I have to spend my own time getting jobs, arranging things, accounting, paperwork etc. I would not expect to get paid less than $20 an hour, considering the extra work and expenses, compared to working at a cleaning company. If they were really good, reliable, provided all their own materials etc, I would say $25 wouldn't be a huge stretch

Also, sticking your hands into random people's urine, feces, etc does command a premium over some other types of unskilled service type positions.

Agreed, alot of them charge $25 per hour. I think they can just charge that amount because we live in a city with a lot of money and not a lot of people wanting to do that job, supply and demand! Just go on to Kijiji or any ad site and if you search for cleaners, you'll mostly get ads for people looking to hire them.

Considering the present market, I would be hesitant to pay any more than $25.00 per hour.

If I was an unskilled worker these days in Calgary, I'd look at being a house cleaner or dog walker...and then save up and get some sort of skill that gave me a decent living.

Bump, whats the going rate nowadays?

I'm looking at a cleaner that charges $29.50/hour for a single person for the south end of town. I supply cleaning supplies, they are insured though, and estimate 4-5 hours for a bi weekly service.

I've been using mollymaid. No issues with the ladies that come to my house. Works out to be $80 every two weeks.

I used mollymaid in the past as well, and for the most part I was quite happy. The only problem I had was that they kept changing who my housekeepers were. My GF and I are looking to hire someone privately so we know exactly who is doing our cleaning week to week.

Like everyone else in this thread, I'd love a good suggestion. I'm currently in Mount Pleasant, soon to be in Hillhurst. #firstworldproblems

I can't speak on their cleaning abilities, but these girls are easy on the eyes!

Edit: These are friends. I'm not a 50 year old creep who hires hotties to clean my house.

It's hard finding good cleaners these days. Most wont clean anything that is real dirty.

They expect to clean tidy houses. Called a couple for a rental I have and no one would touch it even when I offered to pay more.
