Some swears, NSFW. This is a classic.

Truthfully, we almost never answer our home phone unless the call is from a small group of numbers we know.

All other calls go to voicemail.

I'm sure we get the same number of polling and telemarketer calls mentioned by others in this thread but honestly, that's just a guess.

Try it.

One of the main reasons I don't have a landline. Time for that dodo to go extinct. Anyone who knows me is going to text. If it's the folks they'll leave a voice mail, but since they're both now hard of hearing they much prefer Skype (so they can lip read).

funny how we went from asynchronous communication (letters, telegrams) to synchronous (phone call) and now we're going back to async. at one point we thought we'd be doing video or holo-calls regularly, but it seems now we put more value on the ability to evaluate a message and deal with it on our own time.

nobody's really bugged by spam anymore; aside from there being much less getting through these days, it doesn't waste nearly as much time as telemarketers do.

If it is an actual live person telemarketer i usually just pick up the phone and put it right near the TV that is turned up for a few min until he you hear the hang up beeping.
They tend to not call back.

You have to make sure they pick up on their autodialer on the other end. I answer "hello", wait for them to start talking, then press a button and hold it until I get my tiny bit of satisfaction.

I've been getting the odd call that now gives a choice. I pick up the receiver but don't say anything. If they respond and after giving their spiel, they say something like, Press 1 to speak to an agent or press 2 to be taken off our list. Pressing 2 seems to work to some extent.

What I don't understand is how Telus and the like haven't developed something like spam blocker for your phone. I like having a home phone but some days there are too many messages from spammers that I consider canceling it.

I want Telus to offer something where I can block numbers and report them easily as spam so that Telus can block them for everyone.

Or even if I could maintain my own block list like I can with Shaw home phone.

It would be nice to have a internet control panel for your phone that would allow you to go through previous calls and block numbers that you know are telemarketers or pollsters.

As it stands I have a home phone that I rarely use because everyone who knows me knows to call my cell.

Russic tweeted this out yesterday and I thought it'd be one way of helping to combat the spammers.
