I can't imagine what a Simpsons movie can possibly do that they haven't already done in a TV episode. That was the nice thing about South Park--they were able to produce a movie that went beyond the TV show in so many ways. Maybe I just don't trust the writers of the Simpsons anymore. I think this film will be greeted with a hearty chorus of "BOO-URNS"!

It would be nice if they could get Conan O'Brien to write some of the jokes.

They were making a straight to DVD Family Guy movie, but it was postponed when they got picked up for another season. Now it's going to be released on DVD and as a three part episode.

They got just about every other great Simpsons writer on board. *shrugs* Oh well. Just got back from the movie, it was very enjoyable. Worth the wait IMO. And good enough to make me re-examine some of the more recent episodes and see what I've been missing.
If you are or were a SImpsons fan, you will enjoy this movie.
My two cents.

Good post, TTC.
I've edited the thread title- let's keep this thread free of spoilers. I know I'm going to see it tomorrow; my first movie in a theatre in several years.
If somebody wants to discuss the contents of the movie with others who have seen it; please feel free to start a new thread- but be sure to put "Spoilers" in the title.

Great avatar pic ken, I really enjoyed that episode. Especially the part about Saskatoon and Regina, hilarious, and true.
I am also looking forward to seeing this movie. Has anyone else been laughing their head off with Ralph in the previews on T.V.? When he comes out of the 0 in the Fox 20th century and says "Dun Dun Dun Dun!!" Man I just can't get over how funny it is.

I had heard it several times, but I wasn't paying attention to the ads at first, and didn't know he was actually animated into the logo. Agreed, great stuff.

I probably churn out like 5 simpson quotes a day without even thinking about it, it's just part of my vocabulary and I grew up on it. But i'm with the crowd who thinks the show's gone downhill and I really don't watch it anymore, maybe it's just me growing up or the show getting worse...
Anyone remember the "BoBo" Episode? that episode makes me piss my pants to this day! Full of one-liners, but my favorite part is when Homer is being punished for not giving Mr. Burns the bear and he's turning the little desert carousel while being whipped by some satanic slave master deep underground... can't stop laughing at that!

Lenny: 'Hmm, I wonder what makes it turn.'
Karl: 'Who cares.'
The show in its hayday was the best sitcom on television. Just top-notch comedy at its finest. Hopefully the movie was able to recapture a bit of that, but I have my doubts.
I'll be sure to check it out at some point though.

Saw this movie last night at empire 16 at country hills.
had a few beers first, smoked a little ganja first. was definately set to see the movie ive been waiting for since i was 10.
I laughed my a$$ off. it is truly an instant classic. will certainly go at least once or twice more.
didn't laugh as hard as the south park movie. the first ten minutes of which is probably the funniest 10 minutes of a movie ever. but i definately laughed more often. about a good hearty laugh every 45 seconds. not only that but it has the romantic moments between homer and marge that we are used to seeing in episodes like Colonel Homer which is the one with Lurleen.
it was animated in such a way that virtually every camera angle looks different than the angles they use on tv so it looks like a movie. the animation almost looks 3D compared to tv.
great plot. politically motivated, great satire, great parodies. had lots of the famous simpson random cut away scenes that family guy so famously ripped off. everything that made the simpsons good during its prime (seasons 2-10) is in this movie. <snip>
Albert Brooks the guy who played Scorpio in You Only Move Twice, which IMO is the greatest simpsons episode ever, makes a lengthy appearance as the villain. (sorry if anyone thinks thats a spoiler)
every character is involved somehow or even just has a bit part. Tom hanks cameo is the greatest ever on the show me thinks.
can't believe it being a jaded simpsons fan who thinks that seasons 2-10 are the greatest episodes ever aired on television by any show and that seasons 13-current is the worst thing ever aired on television but i give this movie a BIG 10/10

Yup it was OK. Basically an hour an a half long Simpsons episode. Some funny moments, some tedious stuff, but overall, moderately enjoyable.
Loved the Spider Pig stuff though

Went to see it today. From the standpoint of a big Simpsons fan in the 90's who has now lost interest- it was worth seeing. There was definitely some burst out laughing moments which have been lacking recently.
For anybody going, be sure to get a seat that won't have your view blocked during the credits, and stay in your seat until the credits are done. There's a couple of funny bits during the credits.
