sad thing is the insane markup on furnaces, $5000 for supply and install of a $1000 furnace.

What is my estimate price range for replacing the furnace? ive heard anywhere from 3K to 5K depending on who you use. The house obviously is about 30 years old as well so i am unsure if it would need new plumbing for the furnace as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.!
It is a shame you are too late for the goverment rebates on getting a new furnace. I believe it ended March 31st

Once a furnace has been installed in a home it cannot be installed in another home. You could install it in a garage, but not a house.

A heat pump used in typical application is geothermal, and it's very pricey. Ours was $25,000.

Thats expensive IMO...

I had mine replaced last year through Enmax and got a free hot water heater as well.

Came to just under 5 G's I believe. Plus they financed it interest free over a year.

When it was fully paid off I applied for and got a 500.00 rebate to boot for the install.

Anyone have experience or know about wood/gas burning furnaces? These things will burn wood or gas. From what I've read, you can load them up with wood and they will burn it for a day or two and then switch back to gas if you don't get more wood stoked up in time. They are ultra efficient when burning wood, not a lot of smoke gets emitted like a regular wood stove would output. I think you can even generate hot water with them. A 2000 sq foot home would eat about 4-5 cords of wood a year.

Here's a link to one company: http://www.charmaster.com/whyus.html

Yes that may be a little high, however I'm not sure what type of furnace and ducting is in there currently. I've done some furnace replacements in the past where it was 5 hours to just get the furnace out of the furnace room. If its a straight in and out in a couple hours it's probably around $4000 - $5000. Would have to visually see the current set up before giving an accurate quote
