If anyone wants a good take on the matter, contact the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the U of C . . . There are some professors and researchers there who have an excellent take on the situation in Uganda.

Slactivism is great. And about as useful as "show those big oil companies whose boss by not buying gas for one day."

I have to say, one of my highlights last night was reading through Nenshi's twitter feed and reading his replies to what people were tweeting him about this. If you're interested in some great comedy I'd highly recommend it

I watched this video before heading to bed last night, and naturally what I saw tugged at my emotions and I was about to share it on facebook but I thought I’d do a bit more reading before I did so. This morning I’ve been reading more about the Invisible Children organization and things don’t look good. There is a pretty solid discussion on reddit which is suspicious of the Kony2012 campaign and a its timing. A lot of the counter argument is backed by solid information.

Right now all I know is that this is a complex situation and things are anything but clear from both ends. If nothing else it has brought some much needed attention to the situation in Africa.

Unfortunately we didn't have the power of the #hashtag 8-10 years ago. Yeah we had those FWD: FWD: FWD: email chains, but they got bogged down quickly by those hoping to cash in on Bill Gate's millions.

Spoiler!
Some good points, but I don't think cutting off foreign aid is the right move. We need to be intelligent about how we spend the money (which the Liberals really did not do) and we need to keep ideologies far away from those decisions (which the Conservatives really do not do).

I like how this campaign has at least sparked the debate about how we need to go about solving the problems of the developing world. This is at least showing the global community is becoming closer.

I don't want to see people's desire to help the less fortunate end up being channeled in a way that supports the Ugandan dictator, who's own army started out by recruiting child soldiers and who's legislative agenda includes the hunting down and murdering of gay people.

I don't think he is - I think he's a character of Don Cherry proportions that knows what a specific demographic want and how to act just for them. Right? Please tell me I'm right...

Oh damn, they're waiting until April 20th to do their thing? I thought it was March 20th... they vastly overestimate the longevity of these kinds of things in social media. They'll have a couple diehards still come out but nobody will be talking about this even on April 1st, let alone the 20th.

Maybe it got big much faster than they expected it to? And also why would they choose 420 as the day to do this? Any particular reason it couldn't have been the 19th or 21st?

I watched the first three minutes of this video and read this thread. I still don't know what the movement is about. I guess I should retweet it because other people tell me it is important.

You know, whenever these viral facebook things come up that you guys talk about, I always go check facebook and never see anything. I thought it was because I have no friends, but I realized I have about 75% of my "friends" on ignore. I have filtered all those ######ed people off my feed and only have the people I actually want to read. Good thing I have you guys to push the viral things onto me.

So just to clarify your monologue. . . You are confirming CP'ers aren't ######ed, correct?

The money may not be being spent wisely, but the awareness and debate has to be considered a positive.
