Exactly! Everyone has fun talking about the "Fat Americans" until someone has a novel idea about how to keep their child from perpetuating the stereotype, then everyone is up in arms.

I could see making a kid run for a few minutes or do some exercises as a punishment, but 3 hours crazy.

I dont think punishment is deserved if there is no other history of abuse. Usually when people die of exercertion there is some underlying condition that hasnt been diagnosed.

I can't figure out if this is serious or not. It's tantamount to saying "I don't think punishment is deserved if there is no other history of murder."
The child was forced to run until she died for christ sake

Kind of interesting case.
1. The punishment is way over the top for the crime. If it was punishment for something that was actually bad, like knocking over a convenience store, would it make it more ok?
2. I don't think it was the excercise that killed her. My kids have basically run for hours on end for fun with no issues. I guess they probably took a few little breaks here and there. It was the not giving her water that did her in. If the parents were just too stupid to realize she needed fluid, then they should be probably charged with whatever neglect charge some other parent who didn't properly hydrate their kid while they excercised. If the kid was begging for water, and they didn't give her any as part of the punishment, then definitely is murder, I'd say.

Depends...Involuntary Manslaughter (that and Voluntary Manslaughter are often called 3rd degree murder) was the charge you were thinking of, right?

Come on people! Did you really go there? A girl is dead, and the majority of the posts so far are jokes.
Uncalled for IMO.

If this story was about a dog, who's owner ran it till it died....there would be 10+ pages and calls for public stoning
Girl dies tragically and too soon, comedic fodder
Such is life

I know, right? There are only two acceptable responses to this thread:
1) "Thoughts and prayers."
2) "If it was up to me, the parent would suffer by *insert over-the-top barbaric punishment here*."
How dare anyone engage in black comedy at a time like this!

Blame the chocolate bar, it must've been laced with something dangerous. Kill all of the people involved in the production of the chocolate and the vendor that sold it...
Thoughts and prayers.

That line about the prosecutors seeking the death penalty is priceless. Good luck with that.

Look I'm all for a lot of bad jokes in many instances, but Nine year old girl is dead doesn't rise my funny bone.
I'll leave it at that.
As you were.

Clearly this girl's mom and grandmother couldnt care less about her, to the point where they tortured her to death over something completely menial.
But we, complete strangers, are supposed to care and be sad?
This is all kinds of Hillbilly Hilarious, the only correct course of action is to point and laugh. They killed their own kid because they're idiots, and their idiocy should be ridiculed.
But by all means, you can take the lead and begin the wake.

The girl's mom and grandmother you shouldn't give two poops about, the girl however I feel sad about, yes for sure.
I am not about to get on my high horse about this, and I've never been above bad poorly timed jokes in the past... but just because the girls caretakers were horrible people, doesn't mean the 9 year old girl was.
