Saw this movie, pretty good for what it was, I was getting sick of hockey movies with annoying storylines. This was just pure fun.

Baruchel is a funny guy and lives hockey so this should be decent. Liev looks the part, and Kim Coates is a nice canadian touch.

After seeing Jay on George Strombolopolupolos last week, I really want to see this. Looks like the guy just flat out loves hockey and Canada, which leads me to believe that the hockey aspect of this movie will be very realistic.
Also, seeing Regulator75 get ripped multiple times for being a thread Nazi makes it worthwile to keep this thread going.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I find Sean William Scott pretty funny in most things that he is in. I also tend to enjoy movies that Liev Schreiber is in.
7.4 on IMD
70% for critics, 81% for audience on Rotten Tomatoes so far, but it's still early.

Saw it this afternoon and loved it. Very enjoyable movie, and very guy oriented. Wouldn't recommend taking a girlfriend/kid under 14 to it though

His twitter feed shows you everything you need to know about this guy. He actually has a separate account just for him to talk hockey. He's had a few interviews with Strombo and it's incredibly uplifting to hear how highly he talks about our country. Especially from a guy who could easily be getting Grade A work in LA right now if he wanted to but chooses to make movies in Canada.

Which is a shame. That movie was hilarious.

I'll throw my 0.02 cents in. The movie is a lot like a modern day Slapshot, but it definitely has a bit of a different vibe to it. I loved it, and my dad and I howled at the premiere on Wednesday. I'll definitely go and check it out again.

"Goon" Poster Penalized For Gross Misconduct.
Toronto.
Quote:
According to TorontoFilm.Net, the new 'low-brow' hockey movie "Goon" has had numerous posters removed from Toronto bus shelters by outdoor advertiser Astral Media.
The reason was public complaints to Toronto City Hall about Baruchel being shown making a 'suggestive gesture' with his tongue and two spread fingers that is generally recognized (?) as signifying having oral sex with a woman.

I think it peaked at #7 in the UK. Quite a few from the hockey community I know went to it. Got real good feedback from them.
I'll have to wait for the DVD as the movies I get to go to these days have chipmunks and muppets in them.

I watched "Goon" tonight. Enjoyed it very much and even laughed out loud a few times which is rare for me. Really appreciated the footage of smith's fights and interviews during the final credits!

Good movie. Its no slapshot but its better then the underdog movies- it is just more enjoyable. Also George Laraque is a beauty in it.
I'm sure most if you know this quote but just in case watch from 45 seconds- Goon pokes fun at it. Probably my favourite part:

Recommend seeing it!

I think that's one of the key parts. I thought the team antics, and locker room parts were much more indicative of an actual hockey locker room than basically every other hockey movie made. This is especially true for hockey teams in small towns where they are basically viewed as gods.
