The game is super punishing if you just want to pick it up and play it without planning your entire playthrough. If you screw up a character, you're boned and might as well restart.
Yeah, on my 4th or 5th playthrough on some of these Tactics games, I'm thinkin' there's no way a guy who's only casually played this would be able to get through some of these battles. I consider myself somewhat of a skilled player when it comes to these types of games, and if you don't know how to position your characters to minimize enemy damage and maximize your own character's strengths, then every battle would probably be pretty difficult.

Oh yeah, and I bought Vandal Hearts off the Playstation Network yesterday. I approve! There have already been a few battles that have been challenging, and I've played only about an hour or two. If ya like FF Tactics, you need to check it out.

As for the controls, the only difficulty I have is that if enemy X is hiding behind enemy Y, if I was on a PS1 or PSP, and the cursor is on X, I just hit up on the control pad to choose Y. However, there is no control pad here... you are just supposed to touch the enemy on the screen, which you can't if X is blocking Y. So you have to click in the upper corner to switch to rotate mode, turn the board around to you are at the angle you need to pick out Y, and then touch the guy you want to hit. Other than that, I've had no issues with controls whatsoever. Much, much, much, much better than any game that requires a virtual D-pad.

Oh man this is so tempting, I killed so many hours playing this on the PS1 when it came out. Love all the jobs and doing fun things like stealing unique armour off of some of the bosses (the Genji armour from the one boss is boss, but such a tough fight to get it).

What to do? What to do?

Well, what I am doing now is fighting squires an mandalia plains, collecting map male (108 gems). They protect against undead and vampire. Should make stealing the Genji armour a bit easier. Also, by fighting these squires, I'm getting gaia gear and golden hairpins much earlier in the game than I would find them at an outfitter.

BTW - what I did yesterday was I went to the gym, hopped on an exercise bike, pulled up FFT and played for 90 minutes. Quickest 90 minutes of exercise I ever had... it seemed like it was over before it started.
