Tell everyone there that your favourite song is "How Bizarre" by New Zealand band OMC.

Thanks for the responses so far. Right now this is the plan:

Land in Auckland and spend a day there
Head up to the northern tip of the north island (Bay of Islands/Cape Reinga)
Make my way back down to Kerikeri and then get on a plane and land in Christchurch.
I'll then spend 4 days between there and Queenstown.
I'll get on a plane in Queenstown and head back up to Auckland where I'll spend 5 or 6 days in and around Auckland.

Thanks!

If you have time, check out the Kauri trees just south of the Te Paki sand dunes on the west coast, which is also just south of Cape Reinga. . . . The Waipoua Forest has some amazing nature trails. I would try hitting that up on your way back to Kerikeri.

South Island >>> North Island. There's good stuff to do in the north too, but as far as mountains and natural beauty, it doesn't compare.

Milford Sound was pretty sweet.
