I sort of looked at this initially as a BetaMAX vs VHS / HD-DVD vs Blu-ray sort of battle, but both have their place.
You won't get espresso (or espresso-based drinks) out of a Keurig, for instance.

March 3, 2011, Burlington, Ontario – IKEA Canada has initiated a recall on the FÖRSTÅ coffee/tea maker. Pressure from the metal holder on the glass pot can potentially cause it to break unexpectedly, posing a burn hazard.

So you like having BPA in your coffee? I rather risk getting a burn then getting cancer, just me though.
Also got a call from Costco that our box of Cappuccino T-Discs may be at risk for recall too. The model numbers we had weren't affected though.

Also. You do realize that damaged skin (ie. Burns) is thought to be more prone to skin cancer. Looks like you are hooped either way.

I like my odds better. I was just playing Devils Advocate since the Keurig's arent without their issues, it was the quickest remark i could come up with.
Older models of Keurig's were prone to the plastic containing BPA (same issue as the old Nalgene bottles). When the plastic gets warm it apparently leeches the BPA into the water.
I'm sure it's been fixed now, but it was a recall none the less.

How much do those one cup capsules cost incidently? it seems to be way more than making an expresso on a regular expresso machine with loose coffee.

You can get a package of 8 or so and its about $8-10 depending where you go. Future Shop (odd, I know) sometimes has a BOGO sale so thats when we stock up.

Incidentally, I just saw on Twitter via Redflagdeals that the 18-cup packs of Keurig coffee are on clearance at Futureshop starting at $6.49.

Yeah, it's a rip off.
I still prefer to make a full pot and only use the Tassimo on very rare occasions. I have had it for a year and only used it maybe 4 or 5 times.
I use the Keurig at work more often, but I don't pay for it.

Isn't this single cup thing horribly bad for waste, or do you single cup drinkers not use them all that much?

From my understanding:
Keurig is better if you want a large selection of coffees, or you want to use your own coffee grounds.
Tassimo is better if you want specialty coffees, like espressos, or lattes, as the Keurig is unable to steam milk necessary for them.
We got a Tassimo for Christmas. I like it so far. Only really use it on weekends though, as I don't have to pay for coffee at work. I rarely drink more than a cup of coffee in a day so it's good, plus it's handy for when guests are over, as everyone can have their own different kind of coffee.

I don't get it to be honest.

Mostly convenience. If you only drink one cup of coffee every few days, then brewing a whole pot makes no sense and instant coffee sucks (or so I'm told, I hate coffee). The quality of coffee is fine, never had any complaints from normal coffee drinkers.

I have a moderatly expensive espresso machine (happy now!) makes one cup in about 3 minutes, the coffee is I would guess about 10 cents a cup. For a grand you can get a 'plumbed in, press a button and 3 minutes later a latte arrives' machinen that looks like something from Nasa, I figure either of them would pay for themselves over a year to three over the tassimo model.
This makes no sense to me
