Calgary Stampeders @calstampeders

Stamps sign kicker Rene Paredes to extension and add Aussie punter Scott Crough http://bit.ly/wSiioY#calstampeders#CFL#YYC

Stupidest head line of the week from the Calgary Herald.

Stamps won't be on home turf until October

We do have holes. The defensive line was horrible last year, couldn't get pressure on a pop Warner team.

I sure hope the players coming to camp this year are better then the garbage last year. The trenches is where winning begins, if you can get pressure you will win, if you keep your qb clean you will win. Ever since he let archibald walk, left tackle is a issue. It's no surprise bc snapped him up and won the grey cup, he was the best tackle in the cfl.

You can't say a guy like Byron Parker could not have helped our secondary. Tisdale is great, but we need a playmaker and they don't get much better then Parker.

We are still a good team, but we are several notches below bc.

I am not sure if that was because of the personnel. It is more like Chris Jones defensive system at times. Love Chris Jones' coaching but there are times i questioned why do we have two linemen just standing around and other times, they are not even going after the QB and not a lot of pressures on the QB and the running back.

I think Jones did pull back a little, but I think part of it was he didn't have the rescourse to blitz like he wanted to. I think it's also important to remember that they had Mace hurt for most of the year, good push inside, they had Simpson have a injury plagued poor year, McCune struggled to stay healthy and they were forced to use rookies in Turner and Bulke who both played fairly well. Just getting Mace back healthy and Simpson returning to form would be huge for the D, but I wouldn't be opposed to a litlte more talent on the D line, but giving how weak it was in Fa your best bet is probably to go the US Free agent route.
Even on the offensive line remember that Edwin Harrison missed over half the year, and Tsoumpas got off to a iffy start with his injury. I think once Harrison came back and he and Bryant ancored the Tackles I thought they got very good protection after that and they've win upgraded by brining in Dewit over O'Neil, who really struggled last year at center.
From what I also understand, the Stamps are pretty up against the CFL Cap so they don't really have the ability to throw around alot of money.

I am not sure about that. They got rid of Burris huge salary so I guess they have some space in the salary cap.

And gave it to Tate and Glenn. Even Huffnagel has said he didn't expect to save much at the QB spot this year. Then they gave alot of what they were paying Reynolds to Cornish on his extension. I don't believe they are up against it, but i dont' think they have the room to throw alot of money around unless it fits a big need.

I thought Harrison and Bryant where both terrible, which lead to a slow start on offense and running the ball. Add in Codiggan or whatever his name was, the tackle position was a joke after Archibald left.

Now im not saying go out and sign every free agent, but he let a good one go. When we did make a splash in free agency to shore up a need it was JoJuan Armour who led our defence to a phenomenal season and grey cup title.

The middle linebacker spot and defensive line, especially since Johnson has left has been a weak spot. I sure as heck hope the US free agents we recruited are good.

Harrison missed the first of last season and once he got back, the offense played much better with he and Bryant there, save for the playoffs. I don't think it's a coincidence the offence got hot at the end of the season with Harrison back.

They also signed Larry Taylor and Geoff Tisdale last year, so it's not like he is adverse to FA. Both players were very good last year.

2 years ago, Juwan Simpson was a nominee for outstanding D player of the year from the MLB spot, he just had set back last year. he bounces back to 80% of what he was 2 years ago they'll be fine. I also think that you need to give a little credence to getting Mace back healthy and a full year of Junior Turner, Brian Bulke, and Torrey Dixon. All flashed great potential.

I'm suprised there was no major FA added on the D line by the Stamps. Big problems there last season. Pass rusher needed ASAP Huff!

The salary cap is $4,350,000 these year. The minimum team salary is set at $4,000,000.

I think the most likely way to get one of those is an import rookie signing and there is still time for a guy like that to come in.

@TSNDaveNaylor: Calgary defensive co-ordinator Dave Walkosky hired to join the staff of Virginia Tech. Stamps now looking for D-co-ord for 2nd time this OS.

Ok is the vibe as bad as it seems to be for Stamps this offseason? Are there positives I'm missing?

I would say uncertain more than anything. will Tate step up and be the next Lulay? how will the new stamps coaches do? will the Stamps find any import gems?
It seems like a transition year, and they will be in tough to beat BC for the west, but probably still better off than sask
it doesn't seem like an overly positive vibe for me, as I think Tate still has some growing to do as the starter. I am interested to see how the Stamps Aussie kicker does, we need some field goal help. not alot of improvements on the Dline, but it's very possible someone surprises.
on a positive note, the Stamps still have a great group of Canadian recievers, and I see forzani continuing to improve, add to that cornish at RB the Stamps are building thier Canadian talent

so I'm not sure
